haven't seen eternal sunshine yet, but it'd have to be
something very special to be better than lost in
translation.

taffmonster: i was just going to make this thread!! and i
agreed completely with what you said about lost in
translation trying to be all artsy by being bland.

yay sum one agrees with me :) eternal sunshine had all the
artyness but enough substance to pull it off. it was a
genuinly beautiful film. it was really sweet aswell. it had
way more feeling to it than lost in wanklation. and big
respect to jim carrey for acting brilliantly without silly
faces or typical jim carey acting.
best film of the year cantw ait for the dvd ill deffo get it

I think they are both great movies. i haven't seen "Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" enough times to say whether i
like it better than "Lost," but i do know that "Lost in
Translation" has a special place in my heart, it really hit
home for me which "Eternal SUnshine" did not.

anyway,
they are two totally different kinds of movies. it's like
comparing "12 Monkeys" with "The Jerk" or something.

but "the Jerk" is better than all those movies regardless.

yes, i dont see what would be artsy about lost in
translation either, filming her butt in the beginning maybe
but thats it really, imo

Lost is Translation wins for me. I liked both but lost in
translation was more emotionally affecting. Eternal Sunshine
was more inventive tho, certainly visually. Scarlett
Johansson + My Bloody Valentine + Squarepusher + Tokyo
citylife = awesomeness.

lost in translation wowed me with the most accurate
'translation' of human life to the screen i had ever seen.
eternal sunshine just blew my fucking gourd in two.

so my vote is for eternal sunshine

film is a lot more enjoyable when you go beyond the "good"
vs. "shite" argument. try it.

it's art. it's not a hamburger.

two completely different films, no point in comparing on a
good/bad level.
