Yesterday was not the first penalty he missed in this year's
EC. He should be tarred and feathered for missing penalties
with his salary :P

FYI, the penalty he skyed was not his fault... the penalty
spot was fucked, and he ws the first player to take a
penalty, so everyone else had the benefit of knowing prior
to their kicks that the spot was fucked... which, btw, is
the responsibility of the hosts, who were, coincidentally,
Portugal.

His style of penalty, as someone already stated, means that
his non-kicking foot comes down near the penalty spot, which
shifted the molehill even worse than before, causing the
ball to move.

Good to see vultures like you coming out and attacking with
no depth or intelligence.

haha, I thought the exact same thing... he missed that shot
so bad, and he gets paid a shit load... goodness...

but yes, the penalty spot WAS fucked... and it did give the
people after him a benefit... but still...

muhahahahaha!
yeah, good aint it.

beckham should have been smart enough to check the penalty
spot (which he actually did, i believe) and have made the
appropriate 'adjustments' to his kicking technique.

allas, he failed miserably

the double standards some people have when passing comment
on football amazes me.

the spot was obviously fucked from the start.
the commentators even said it had been mentionned earlier in
the day by the teams/managers before the game began
beckham could have taken/should have taken/maybe even did
take this into account before shooting.
everyone took the penalty from the same spot.
if it had gone in, no one in england would even have
mentionned it.
he got it wrong.
shit happens.
beckham's form has been poor throughout this tournament, so
missing a penalty came as no surprise to me. either he isn't
fit or his heads not in the right place or something.
either way, shit happens.
getting bitter about it just makes you an ingracious loser,
and undeserving of any credit.

based on the performance in that match yesterday, the better
team won.

oh, the spot must've also been fucked when he took 2
penalties in 2 other games before this one,
'cause he MISSED those too!!!

just like that idiot Owen, FYI he missed 10 of his last 23
penalties!

hahahaha

are you suggesting SHE sabotaged the penalty spot?

i'd be more inclined to believe that beckham is a pussy who
missed a penalty, is currently on poor form and led a team
that didn't deserve to win.

ashley cole did a pretty good job though, against all the
odds.

sad that the whole team hinged on whether or not their
eighteen year old prodigal son was on the pitch or not..
that, to me, is not a team. if they'd deserved anything from
the eurocup, they should have been flexible enough to cope
with that. one man/boy is not a team.

I hope Beckham really was in poor form... cause I've heard
so much about Beckham being super high paid, and really this
tournament has been the first time I've really esen him in
action... and I've thought numerous times to myself that he
was nothing special by how he played...

haha
no, that's -sadly- not what i was suggesting. i was aiming
at beckham's current form. it seems to be the product of his
relation with ice-queen vicky and his numerous love-affairs.
someone must have hid a correlation here somewhere...

he should be in the leading role in the remake of troy.
achilles playing soccer on a greek battlefield.......and in
the end failing to score from a penalty. who said anything
about a weak spot?

kind of noble though, to see some people stand up for the
english football players by blaming the field and the
portugese and whatnot, instead of the players themselves.
they're just quite mediocre, end of story :P

"nothing special by how he played..."

exactly, he looks so average, I don't even think he should
be in the England team, i'd rather have Owen Hargreaves
playing instead. I wonder if he will go throught his whole
career without ever managing to take the ball past a player?

I don´t know about other players but Beckham crosses the
ball very well from the midfield into the penalty area, he
is "de Boer" of England

"de Boer"

yeah but he actually has some controll of the ball when he
has it, the only time Beckham ran with the ball yesterday he
looked like bambi on ice.

I think the funniest thing is that no-one mentions the
portugal player who screwed their penalty too. The penalty
spot was fucked, clearly. Beckham probably would've missed
anyway but it was made worse by the spot. He went first so
got the worst of it. The Portugal player who sliced had less
of an excuse. That was a REALLY bad penalty.

Non footballer question:

I was under the belief that players had to ruun straight at
the ball for a penalty. They weren't allowed to stop start.
They had to commit straight in.

If that's the case then why did two of Portugals players do
a fake run and not get penalised?

Maybe I'm wrong. Probably I am. Either way, Portugal won
through being a better team.

BAM!

Actually, I was wondering the same thing when the Portugal
player hesitated in his run towards the ball. It's kind of
misleading to the keeper.

Beckham is a brilliant player, but maybe he shouldn't be the
nr1 pick for penalties.

They didn't stop running, that's the point. You are allowed
to slow down, even if it's as drastic as that.

eXXalion: It just looked wrong!

I also noticed that that Ronaldo looks right twat. Kind of
