I'm extremely paranoid about identity theft. I have no hard figures for everyone else's respective countries, but I can imagine the figure is large enough to be disturbing; I once heard that in the united states 1 in 10 people will experience it to some extent within the course of their lives (most definitely an alarmist statistic (how do you define 'to some extent'?), but still worthy of concern). Anyway so I'm packing up, moving out, and had to dispose of a checkbook, one of those annoying ones with duplicates of all written checks, hence with all sorts of information about me appearing twice.. ..so I marked out important sections.. ..and yes burned the damned thing. too bad my apartment smells now. By the way, whenever a receipt has my full credit card number, I mark it out (both sides of paper) with a thick permanent marker and tear it up violently--this tedious procedure is actually blindingly quick. so I was tearing the ruined, blackened, wet remains of the checkbook, and the shit was all over my hands. Had a nice texture--nothing quite so crumply. see you |

I had a burning phase for about a month when I was 8.. sorry no digital camera, I can't make this artful like everyone else Identity theft is just what it sounds--someone pretending to be you. It manifests itself in all sorts of ways, but always depends on getting some documentation about it and capitalizing on the fact that things are so indirect in our world.. For instance, if you go through a trash bin, you could likely find some credit card numbers, a social security number, etc. For instance I took over my brother's old cell phone service, and all I had to know about him to do so were a few figures which could easily be gleaned from a large number of documents. It's a silly thing to be paranoid about, but imagine how frustrating it is to be attacked by something like this, and like I said, lots of people have it happen. |

Whoa, hearing my first name in this context makes me embarrassingly emotional =) thanks for the picture Well, I have plenty of music is part, wasting time is part too, also I'm going to be disconnected for lots of the next 1.5 months, so I'm just kind of getting used to that. I miss all the nice people though. I'll collect email addresses before disappearing for a while to stay in touch. Packing all this shit and throwing away lots makes me feel ridiculously sentimental--memories of things to be given up, lost forever.
