do not trust pitchfork. pitchfork is crap. If they knew anything about the music they were talking about, they would be making it and not pissing shit reviews all over.
Thats why i like Xltronic, you get various opinions from different people
Here I'm alive, everything all of the time

Pitchfork Review
Pitchfork is utter crap. Bollocks. shit. They know nothing. We know everything. They are worse as we are better. They pale in compairison to our incredible awesomeness and i believe horsefactory will agree with me when i say "egg custard"
Why would i look to someone elses opinion when i know myself and what i like more than anyone else. They didnt even give me any cookies for this holiday season. They dont smile as i walk past. They dont even take me to dinner anymore. I thought they truly loved me or at least my new shoes... but no.
*sigh*
overall usefullness 0.2333/10

Pitchfork is coming out with a best-of list for the '70s in a day or two. Should be interesting, especially the inevitable backlash!
But yeah, I read a Sloan review on there the other day that was just out of this world bad (and wrong). I don't mind them too much, generally. I don't read them, that's why.

i don't understand why you hate pitchfork. it's just an opinion, you take it or leave it just like any other opinion. just because it has its own website and is written by lit degree dropouts who happened to be pompous enough to gage a certain perspective on what is right/wrong with music, doesn't make them any different from what is posted on this message board. i enjoy reading their pompous inane toilet fodder for a laugh. i may even agree with them every now and again but remember all reviews are subjective, if you don't like the website don't go there.

actually, i've been hanging out with Rollie Pemberton, who writes a lot of rap reviews for them... and its funny all the shit he has to put up with... people are always writing him telling him what a pretentious white snob he is, when in fact he's just a black dude who really, really loves hip hop...

the same goes to all reviewers really. they can influence sales by saying one thing is shit and the other isn't.
i never take reviews to seriously, especialy if they start bitching about the artist instead of sticking to the music.

I just read the Drukqs review at Pitchfork....how bloody sad. Was he listening to the same album as me? This site doesn't know music from its ass. I haven't heard anything like it, and the drill tracks aren't just "same old" as the reviewer states.

I like Pitchfork... my only complaint is that some of the reviews and completely useless and super hard to understand what the hell they're talking about... but , most of the time I find the reviews good... plus I like that they rate the albums, so you can see what they think of it basically, before reading a word...
and as earthleakage says, it's all opinion anyways... everyone gets so mad and complains when a review goes against your personal opinion, but they love it when it's the same as your personal opinion... who cares? If you like the music, like it...

"but then Zeus it is well know that most music journalists failed miserably at music"
err.. no
none of the ones i know, anyway. for the most part theyre music lovers, not music makers.
still, i don't know any of the big-shot ones who try to make&break artists on their say-so.. i think it's a shame when it becomes bitchy & politicised like that. as soon as a journalist starts believing that their opinion has a greater value than the music/artefact that they are talking about, they've lost all perspective.
theirs is a subjective opinion, design to stimulate discussion/interest/argument about albums/artists/films etc.
some journalists could do with remembering this.. but, then, so could everyone that always slags writers off.

but for the most part, the only time when a journalistic opinion becomes a maker/breaker is when WE allow it to be... pitchfork is just an e-zine that gradually grew in popularity over time, to the point that all of a sudden so many people detested it precisely because so many others respected what it had to say... really i don't know why people get so hopped up about the writing style at pitchfork, people act like it's somehow more self-indulgent than most review work, when in fact pretty much all music reviews are a PERSONAL RESPONSE to what a person is hearing... as surely as it's assumed that it's "imo" when someone here critiques someone else's track, it's "imo" when someone there reviews an album... people really do seem to mistake a writer's passion for his/her pretension... frankly i prefer Brett Dicrescenzo discussing how he had hot dogs in the park with Sam Prekop's voice, to hearing some pathetic normative diagnostic about how it is this clichee adjective, and that clichee adverb...

there's always a backlash on anything that becomes popular, usually but not always driven by the people who made it/them popular to begin with.
