banned from ebay!

offline nacmat on 2004-06-22 03:31 [#01250590]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker

not yet.

but I got a mail saying that I will be if I dont pay the cd
I won the auction on.

ok, so I won the auction for powerpill pacman, but then I
wanted to retract my bid, you know, I just changed opinion,
and didnt want the cd for 60$

so I understand that I really hd earned a warning or
something, but being banned?? I never thought they would go
so far.

I know I acted bad, but really, I would have had to sop
eating if I had bought it

That's only one item. i didn't think they'd ban you for
that. They can always offer it to the next highest bidder
anyway.

you won the auction, you made a commitment. you should not
have bid if you can't pay for it.

I think it's pretty good that they ban you if you just bid
and don't pay - I mean, what if everybody just wins stuff
and then decides they don't want it after all?

but I thought it would mean abann for the first time

and its not my first auction won

I know I deserve it, but hey, didnt you tell me a few weeks
back (about this same matter) that there was no problem with
retracting a bid?

ebay are a massive company, they need to be harsh to uphold
their reputation and maintain their monopoly.

you will wonder: why did you bid then??

ok, I thought my boss was goona pay me more than what he

I only can say sorry to the seller and assume my bann

have you tried saying you will pay next month (if you can),
explaining that your boss made a mistake in your paycheck,
something like that?

the seller will still probably refuse, but you can try at
least.

Yeah dude, it sucks but they do have the right to ban you
for it. When you sign up to ebay you contractually agree
that you will pay for any item you win. You can get away
with retracting a bid before the auction has ended but you
can't change your mind afterwards.

i got mental when they wanted to ban me

its fair...

I still don't think they should ban you for failure to pay
for one auction. That's what the feedback is for. To let
people know that you've not paid in the past. They could
then choose to not let you bid on the item.

My mate kept bidding on things and then forgetting to pay
and she never got banned.

your mate should be banned.
Why would you like to keep e-bay working less well?
It's suppose to be sell or bid/pay - and it's the way it
should work.
Not sell or bid (only) - then there'd be no deals.
There have to be payments.

it probably only comes into action if the seller complains.

besides what Key_Secret says, putting up auctions costs the

She admits that she should really be banned. She bid on
things then forgot about them and checked her e-mail a
couple of weeks later and there were e-mails telling her
she'd won.

I think eBay is great but the feedback is a great system in
letting who's a good eBayer and who's not. If someone has
great feedback all the other times and there's this one
occasion where they didn't go through then I think there
should be a leniency. 3 strikes and you're out maybe?

I'm not saying it's a good thing to not pay. But if it's out
of character for a user to do so then it's a bit strong to
ban them.

I thought the rules said that you didn't have to pay if the
item wasn't sold because of the buyer and you got to put the
item back up. If that's not the case then maybe nacmat could
offer to pay the costs of having put up the item. It'll be
less than the $60 for the CD and the seller won't be out of
pocket.

if anybody should be able to be lenient it should be the
seller. it certainly should not be a rule.

I suppose, but I still think that as nacmat has a good track
record on there they shouldn't ban him. I think its
something nacmat needs to find a resolution with the seller
about really.

yes, but it's still up to the seller, to "drop the charges"
or not, so to speak. it's not eBay's own responsibility.

well, if you're looking for rare stuff, you could have a
look on gemm.com, which is a site where all kinds of
second-hand recordtraders present their stuff.

I have found and bought quite a few things there.

thing is, it isn't as secure as eBay - you're dealing with
traders almost directly. gemm is getting better at that
stuff, though.

big pro: it doesn't use the auction system.

i don't know much about ebay but what happens if i sign
stuff, buy powerpill cd (expensive or rare one) pay via
paypal & do not get the cd because the seller hadn't send it
at all & kept the money & pretends he'd send it...who is the
"judge"?

gemm is pretty good, but be carefull, one advice:
check the seller's name & buy it directly via google search
without sending any money to gemm, that's how i bought
pretty rare stuff like rubber johnny for 4£ or d'arcangelo
ep for 8$

BTW, retracting a bid during an auction is one thing...
changing your mind after the auction has ended, when you are
the winning bidder, is another.

You won't get banned, but you definitely will get negative
feedback.
