Your energies are just mismatched these days. Your creative
talent must be implemented in your work if you want to reach
a higher level. Quick thinking gets you out of a tough spot.
Who knew that romance could be so fun? Buy flowers. Write
poetry. Order dessert.

geez.

Well, I've been experimenting with IDM drum patterns.
Kicked a drummachine down the stairs, sampled the noise that
made and finally sliced it up in recycle. Then I had my cat
walk over the midi keyboard in order to trigger the samples.
Recorded that, flipped the track backwards, then compressed
it with winzip and changed the extension fron .zip to .mp3.
And still..... .....still it there's something mising in
that track.

It was during the Biz Markie set at dedbeat, I talked to rob
for a bit but didn't ask anything about autechre. A bit
later he came up to me and was like "what did you say your
name was again?" so I think they are probably gonna name
their next album after me. Smooth

i'm guessing that you were calm and sophisticated when you
were talking to them yeah?

i dunno how i'd react if i was to meet someone i looked up
to as an inspiration to my music.

I wouldn't wanna act like a star struck fan, because i don't
really believe in commercialism and celebrity and all that,
but i would really want to be able to say to the person(s)

"thank you, your work has made a meaningful impact on my
life"

but i'd probably end up saying it all gaylike
:(

"calm and sophisticated"... haha.

I was just like "hi, my name's des, I'm really into your
stuff" or something then asked him who he was looking
forward to seeing at the festival and things like that. I
figured he gets asked stuff about autechre every time this
happens so I didn't bother. Eventually I remembered that I
had my camera on me so I asked if it was cool to take a
picture, I wondered if he would react similarly to
squarepusher but didn't seem to mind, so yeah, that was it
basically.

I had a chat with him at ATP. I didn't know who I was
talking to until I was told. BAM!

that's a really cool little tidbit :)

yeah, that's another point you just reminded me
about.......i'd really wanna ask the person about their work
and everything, but as you say artists (especially autechre
and Aphex and so on) would probably get asked that stuff all
the time, and they'd be thinking "if i wanted an interview
i'd arrange that with my agent" or something.

sean always looks downright violent.

hey here's an idea: let's have an xlt competition again
sometime, but not artists, but tracks against eachother;
multiple entries by one artist ok. That's much less vague
and much funner (still subjective) than artist vs. artist

something like that though.

actually, a friend of mine who runs a local fanzine saw RDJ
hanging out at the merzbow performance at ATP LA a couple
years ago and he let him do a short interview and was
(apparently) very cool about it. but that may just be
because he rarely appears in the states.

i think most artists wouldn't mind if you appear to be a
fan. they appreciate you. but if you appear to a "member
of the press"...they get defensive.
