Anywayz, i was wondering what people's policies are on
sharing and stuff.
Personally, if i find someone downloading my files who
doesnt share, i ban them automatically.
Also, people who make up gay rules when you browse their
files like "only ten downloads at a time or i'll ban you!!"
are fucking gay. First come, first serve.....

Also, anyone have any favourite users for getting files?
eg: people with like a million tunes...

I don't care who downloads from me or how much they grab...
as long as it's not so much that my computer freezes up as a
list of 10,000 generates.

I can't fucking stand little fucks who ban you if you
download more than one album. I tend to queue up two at a
time, but rarely more than that... it's not too much.
Fucking dickheads banning me for grabbing two, when all they
had to do was message me and tell me they're a fuckface
idiot who only allows one. I'd gladly oblige and get rid of
the second.

Despite my colorful language, it's not a big deal, but
still. Sometimes I have trouble finding this or that and
then when I finally do, I'm out of luck for queueing up 10
extra files.

And I do have a huge list of users, but I often forget why I
added him or her... I wish SLSK had a way to label users,
built in... label SK8TRpunkxXx as ''the guy with all those
Sybian videos'', or Pink_Floyd_Rulz as ''the guy with the
enormous amount of Syd Barrett bootlegs''. I think there's a
program you can download to do that, but I'm too lazy to
find/install/use it. So I'll just go on wishing like a tool.

ufair with ppl i dont know thou, for example if some dude is
dowloading my girfriends swedish pop albums and another
comes in very eager to get a good electronic album and asks
me nicely, i then put them first in line.. it also happens
allot that i share something special to a friend and then
all the others have to wait, unfair but still, that's what
most ppl would do.

quote ophecks "I wish SLSK had a way to label users,
built in"

ummm, it has. i dunno which version you have tho, i think it
might be a feature that's only on the newer test versions.
you just right click a users name and you get the option
'user notes'. the notes also pop up in lil' box when you
hold the mouse over their name too.

with regard to banning......wot u guys talkin

I ban people who don't share.

I also ban people who enqueue more than I would like (I'll
tolerate two short albums or an album and an EP or whatever,
but two full-length albums is over the line).

I only have limited bandwidth so I like to keep the queue
open to as many sharing people as is possible.

Snap.

People who have time to watch their UL/DL screen 24/7, just
to ban people for DLing a whole 12 track album in one go
really need to get a life.

Only time I'd consider banning someone was if they messaged
me incessantly/cancelled my DLs for no reason.

Only reason I'd cancel their DLs would be if I noticed that
they had done a "DL contaning folder" high up the directory
tree and were getting hundreds/thousands of files. As much
for their sake as mine- I'm sure they don't want to look at
the PC only to find they had accidentally DLed hundreds of
files they didn't want.

why the fuck would you want to ban people who don't share?
has it ever occured to you that they are starting out, and
that they don't have any files yet? that's the problem with
most of these p2p-communities.. people doesn't like
newbies... DC++ is the worst.. you actually have to have
more than 5gb of shared things to start out!!!

Agreed. Also, people will share real shite, or even
intentionally misllabel stuff (in order to appear to have
more desirable files), just to get on the ladder if you
operate that sort of rule.

I remember some self righteous prick tearing into me on SS
when I started using it (I mean, I had literally been on
there for 5 minutes and was learning the program, looking
how to hare files etc.) because I wasn't sharing.

yeah.. same problem with dc++! I get kicked every 5 mins
'cause I shared my windows-folder because I don't have 5gb
of video-files to share because I'm supposed to download
them from DC++!!!

I haven't used slsk that much, but I'd bet it would be a
bitch to start out if people keep banning you for not having
files!

I don´t share with everyone untill I download from them or
they ask me to be on my list
the reason I do not share with everyone is because I had
troubles with the MPAA the other year, so I reduce the
chance of getting caught,...it are just precautions
I rarely ban or ignore users

I hate people who ban. I've only banned one person and that
was because they banned my for no reason and wouldn't tell
me why. Then browsed my stuff and queued four albums up. I
get banned for 7 files. They then think it's cool to get 4
albums. Yeah, nice one. They can fuck off.

I keep an eye on my Upload queue though because quite often
my uploads fail and I don't know why. If someone has queued
something and it keeps failing then I message them and let
them know they're not banned and I'm not cancelling their
downloads. The only solution I've found is for them to not
download the entire folder and get each file separately.

Does anyone know how to go an Automessage on Slsk? A couple
of times I've downloaded from someone and instantly a
message pops up with a load of stuff about what to do if
things fail and that. I'd like to do that as it's annoying
keeping an eye on things.

I think i share everything.

DC++ is bad for sharing though. You can't get into a room
without sharing a certain amount of stuff or having so many
slots open. They're really elitist there. You can basically
only get into most rooms if you've got a T1 connection and
50GB shared. Ridiculous.

yeah, I kind of got tired of mp3s, so I'm updating my
collection so that I'm getting all the albums i previously

The reason I use DC++ is so that I can download animés and
movies.. there is lots of animé on dc.. all these
p2p-programs have each their fanbase.. slsk is for music,
dc++ is for movies (and very much animé), edonkey/emule is
for games and kazaa is a bit of each, but less of each as

Yes, I have lived in places where landlords won't let me pay
to have BB fitted. Also, even in comparatively developed
countries like the UK, there are a lot of rural areas where
the only service available that even begins to approach BB
in speed terms is an expensive (and "bursty") satellite
uplink.

I don't think satellite connection has anything to do with

I have a shitty modem connexion, and I never ban or limit
people - In fact, I URGE people to get files - if someone is
getting an album from me, and it occurs to me that they may
like something else I have, I will PM and tell them about
it.

The past couple of weeks I have been sharing certain folders
with userlist only (a new feature on the newer version of
SLSK), but then I'll add people L R C to my userlist, and
people only ever have to ask, so they can view ALL the
folders I share.
