The whole release is solid and enjoyable from beginning to end. I have to admit I only really got into Jazz after I bought Music Is Rotted One Note (I know it's not a very pure way of getting into it :P) I think, so far, this is the set of CD's I enjoy listening to most though (similar mood to Music Is Rotted One Note, especially Directions II)...but it's so diverse.

Do you know 'a kind of blue'? supposedly it's the pinacle of accessability and genius, it was all recorded in one day or something silly... I know really but I can't appear too intelligent. Also check Bitches brew for electric nonsense.

are you talking about the complete sessions? (hence the use of the word sessions) i've never heard anything but the original album (although i have heard Filles de Kiliminjaro, which i think is included on the complete sessions)... and i'm curious if there are some real good tracks on the complete sessions... in any case this album rules...

Yep, Kind of Blue is nice, but it's really laid back. There is a lot more direct and energetic stuff on in a silent way.
I also have the 4CD complete bitches brew sessions which I haven't had a chance to listen to properly yet, but I will do soon :)

Yep I mean the complete sessions. I didn't want the end of the line to go missing in the title so I left it off. I would highly recommend getting it though, it's excellent stuff.
alex: I've ad a few problems recently and I was being stupid letting off steam here. I shouldn't have done it and I am sorry.

I've got Basic Miles, which is a comp of tunes he did before his style became the truly unique "miles" sound. Kinda cool to hear some work he did on his way up.

oh yeah, if you like rotted one note definitely listen to bitches brew to which it owes a lot. the freakiest funky shit he did though (in my opinion) is the 2 live shows he did in japan on february 1, 1975, one in the afternoon and one at night. it's available as "agharta" and "pangaea", 4 discs total. i've listened to this so much i think it's destroyed part of my brain.

i still don't think i'm ready for pangaea yet... it's taken me so long to get into a lot of his post-bitches brew fusion stuff... i'll get one of the later albums out of the library once every 5 months or so and check if i'm feelin' it yet... recently i really started liking Live Evil... but i just listened to Pangaea the other day and it's still a no go...
but i should move this into the...

Miles Davis is damned good, both Kind of Blue is a jazz 'classic' so to speak, and damned decent, though very mellow. I like In a Silent Way, but I prefer the Bitches Brew stuff myself. If you like Davis' work, check out John Coltrane, specifically his 'A Love Supreme' and 'Coltrane' albums, very complex and yet still his more accessible work. (IE, not the sheets of tonal/atonal saxaphone noise of his later years)

I have the 8CD's of Coltrane prestige recordings and tons of other stuff, I just haven't had a chance to chek any of them out yet...I should have plenty of time soon so I am really looking forward to it. :)

Kind Of Blue ain't as good as they'd like to make out. In A Silent Way, howeverr, is the bee's knees.
