Your hands are moving independently? Is this not inconvenient in social situations?

piano was my first instrument.. i've been playing for almost 15 years now. it's really easy to learn once you get the hang of it. plus it's the best instrument to learn harmonics and theory because all the notes are right there in front of you, so you can concentrate more on the music itself rather than actually producing a good sound.

I'm learnin keys, I'd do just aboot anything a piano though. Well apart from pay for one. Maybe I should work the streets.
Buggered my left hand up lately so I got a solo hand thing goin' on right now. Just so glad I'm right handed though, sooooo glad. I'd be crawlin' the streets otherwise.

I know exactly what you mean, cheffe :D I started teaching myself 7 months ago, and although I can't read sheet music, I can play grade 5-6 pieces. To begin with, I learnt to play Bach's Prelude I (very easy but a perfect piece), then Erik Satie's Gymnopedie No.1 and No. 2 (these are fantastic).
Then learnt all of my keyboard's built in classical pieces. Famous things like Beethoven's Fur Elise.
After that, I moved on to a few aphex pieces. Avril 14th, Kesson Dalef, Petiatil Cx Htdui.
Then I needed a real challenge, so it was Satie's Sonatine Bureaucratique. Lovely piece, and very good for developing fast fingers.
Moving on quickly now, onto Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement. Very very hard!
I'm going to play Chopin's Revolutionary within the next 20 years :)
My advice to any people starting to learn is to not get a teacher, and just do it yourself. But don't go slack on it, really push yourself. You'll find that you can advance much faster than those beginning learning with a teacher.
Also, this lets you develop your own unique style of playing. This helps a lot when writing your own pieces I find, as you're less likely to create something that's been done before.
