I always liked the album "Surfa Rosa"

yeah, get "surfer rosa" combined with "come on pilgrim" and
later on get "doolittle".

Oh Jeez! Get their first album Surfer Rosa, which comes with
the bonus tracks from the Come On Pilgrim EP. Bossanova is
the album that has Allison - it has a slicker production
than most pixies, maybe too slick, but the songwriting is
top notch.

well, "bossanova" sounds very 80's-ish, which automatically
means it sounds slick.

songs: debaser, cecilia ann, where is my mind, here comes
your man, etc. etc.

I can see where you'd think it's 80s sounding because the
production happens to be using that technology but the
overall effect isn't 80s the way, I dunno, Phil Collins
sounds 80s.

to me it certainly has connections in the production.

Yeah, I just hate to see it called 80s because it makes me
think of oh let's have a new wave party, you bring the
hairspray, I'll bring the cocaine.

offline dog_belch from Netherlands, The on 2004-06-08 16:29 [#01229892]

Plus it sounds about as 80s as witchcraft, the internet or
the pyramids do.

Witchcraft Internet Pyramid. Didn't they tour with Duran
Duran? Everyone all asking, dude, what's a internet?

Bossanova sounds like the future of rock, cruelly usurped by
the pretender to the throne Kurt Cobain, and now rock is a
serf forced to live under the robber barons like Korn, Limp
Bizkit and Evanscene fuck you very much.

listening to cecilia ann right now . . .

i think i will get bossanova.

how on earth i went this long owning getting pixies music
(i've even seen frank black live even), i dont know.

i think i tried but failed once when i bought the fight club
soundtrack, hoping to get whatever track that was they
played at the end . . . it wasn't on the cd though

uh, that one sentence should read "how on earth i went this
long without owning pixies music . . ."

"Where is my mind" is the track you're after.

Bah... I think Sonic Youth had a more interesting musical
direction back in the late 80's with albums like bad moon
rising and stuff. The pixies are a bit too poppy for my
tastes but the use of discordance on pop song structures
does have a strange appeal.

get come on pilgrim. it's the best tracks from an early
demo.

or get surfer rosa.

or doolittle.

trompe le monde's my favorite but it's sort of distinct from
their other stuff. they had become a tight little band by
then. and the songs were weirder than ever.

I think Pixies are one of the very few bands that haven't
recorded one bad song.

hmm i don't like vamos too much... sowwy :)

ed is dead, river euphrates, caribou, hey, number 13 are my
favourites, but whenever i play a pixies album i say 'that's
my favourite track by them' at every song, so, basically,
you can't go wrong :)

into the white is also VERY nice

I don't like vamos that much really. although most people
see it as a classic, I guess.

same goes for "here comes your man". heard it too many
time.

I absolutely adore "I bleed". I just love that song.

according to the liner notes of the complete b-sides album,
vamos used to be played as the final song at their gigs. i
guess it could work, but most of the times i just find it
tedious.

aye, i bleed really rocks. he sounds just like kurt cobain
during the chorus (although it's probably the other way
round)

i still think doolittle is their most consistent release
though.
followed by the surfer rosa/come on pilgrim cd release
closely followed by bossanova
not as closely followed by trompe le monde, despite its nice
title & sleeve.
