[COOL] My synth arrived today

I got it today after shopping around a bit online and
deciding it was the best, value for money and sound-wise.
It's a Barbie by Bontempi, I don't see them discussed around
here but I think it's great! It's really underrated. Its
features are:

4 drum sounds
- Snare drum
- Hitting drumsticks together
- Bass drum
- Cowbell

15 voices
- Piano
- Marimba
- Clarinet
- Accordion
- Flute
- Guitar
- Mandolin
- Organ
- Oboe (very BoC sounding sound)
- Trumpet
- Synth drum (confield esque)
- Telephone (I will be using this to trick people)
- Pearl Drop
- Alarm
- Space Runner (totally IDM)

7 rhythms
- Rock
- 16 beat
- Rap
- Techno
- Latin
- Twist
- Waltz

To show you its capabilities, I have uploaded the great demo
song which you can listen to here. I have also
attached a picture so you know what it looks like. I can't
wait to make some songs with this! Overall, the Barbie is a
great synth, go and buy one today.

man, i love cheap synths. i use quite them a lot. my
favorite synth is my Yamaha PSS-470, which i purchased for
about $50 US at a pawn shop. All of the sounds have a
Genesis/Megadrive/Nintendo quality to them, which is why I
love it.

It also has a Digital Synthesizer for making my own synths.
It has six parts of customization for the regular voices,
Wave, Spectrum, Modulation, Attack, Decay and Volume, each
with five different levels. Other features include Sustain,
Vibrato, Duet, Auto Bass Chords with about ten different
modes, Pitch Shifter and Custom Drum Programming. (about an
eight meter loop over a current drum loop)

It is about under two feet long in length. Most of the
melody from my recent music has utilized it.

I like my Yamaha PSR-6 too. Real cheap, about the same
price, but with 100 voices, all so old school and 8-bit
sounding.

i'll have to see if i can try and get one of those.

i wanna get hold of that synth that has the same sound chip
as the commodore 64 computers, i think it's called the
SIDstation or something.

anyways, for now my good old Casio SK-1 will suffice

This thread is about the Bontempi Barbie. Please, I have no
problem with the discussion of other synths, but this is not
the place.

So are there any other owners on the board? Tip: combine the
Space Runner sound with the complex "16 beat" rhythm for a
great Drukqs effect.

shush you

i've had many threads go off topic, you're not immune!

so, has anyone else got a habit of eating weird things?

i like to eat powdered milk, horlicks, ovaltine, coffee
whitener, drinking chocolate, and chocolate spread straight
from the jar

No, I think that's a water gun so you can spray your face if
you get a bit worked up during a performance.

can it be refilled with Lucozade, in case it's a really
intensive performance?

I don't know, I guess the merits of spraying your face with
Lucozade is not something the scientists at Bontempi have
looked into.

i guess it would work...Lucozade has the same viscosity as
water.

i guess it'd be different if you wanted to spray grannies
old treacle

Ha ha, no word of a lie, at a beach party I've just come
home from, one of the guys had a super soaker water pistol
filled with pina colada and was spraying at people. It
fucking kills if it gets in your eyes (as it did to
me)!

Funniest was when he pressurised it as hard as he could,
fired it point blank in his mate's mouth and the pressure
made him retch and it came out his nose.

there must be some place in the UK that you can get it fixed
at?

i'm guessing that it's gonna cost a bit though :( i hope you
can get it sorted out as soon as you can - i'm guessing that
it will start to get more and more difficult to get them
sorted.....are they discontinued now?

offline warpphex from lurkston, ziltyland. (United Kingdom) on 2004-06-05 14:37 [#01224291]

I will get it fixed as soon as i can and i will re-search
places first ,but its a little down the list of my things to
sort at the moment. : /
I think they are discountinued because they ran out of the
sound chips but dont quote me on that .
