yay for vinyl!

but i disagree that bands like the Strokes were vital in its
revival - i think it could also be attributed to the rising
number of DJs and the increasing popularity of electronic
music and the rave scene.

read about that this week, went to find the article again to
post about it and typically couldnt find it. ask some punk
what a 45 is these days he'll probably think its a pill.

but the format for DJs etc. would be the 12", not the 7"
single, which is what this article speaks of.

that may be so, but this article is specifically about 7".

and they are different, if not only for length.

vinyl is fun and cool, but i don't like listening to them as
much as cds for the simple reason that cds sound much
better.

some bands i listen to put out records, but it's generally
regarded as more of a nostalgic item or just a novelty for
running off a collector's single or something. it's hard
for indie bands to make money off limited run vinyl because
it's so expensive to manufacture and not many people buy it.

not everything is about making money

oh i see. you are correct.

however, many underground bands have been putting out 7" for
years, you can find many at indie record stores. My friend
had a 7" from some death metal/jazz duo (don't ask) that was
quite good.

? of course not everything is about making money. who said
it was? i was merely explaining the reason some bands don't
put out more releases on vinyl.

some bands don't put out releases on vinyl not primarily
because of the price but because of the interest. although
depending of the style of the music and their popularity,
they must be looking to at least make their money back

well it's not me who's been buying them:

1Take Me Out, Franz Ferdinand
2Love is Only a Feeling, The Darkness
3Freakin' Out, Graham Coxon
4Reptilia, Strokes
5Run, Snow Patrol
6I Miss You, Blink 182
7Somewhere Only We Know, Keane
8Pressure Point, Zutons
9The Funeral of Hearts, Him
10Megalomaniac, Incubus

otherr than that 1 song, i've hearrd none of them.

why would any band put out any sort of release without
hoping to at least get their money back?

sometimes it's simply a matter of prestige.

well, if that's the answer, in my original statement, i was
referring to certain professional bands who try to make a
living at music.
