..when first broadcast on the BBC, I quite liked "This life".
all of a sudden one of the more commercial Dutch tv-stations has started to broadcast the American remake, called "First years".
I am astounded.
firstly because I didn't know they were remaking it, secondly because it is incredibly bad.
only thing left are the names of the characters and the basic recently graduated lawstudents living together situation.
I thought the original was pretty realistic and had some edge - all of this is gone. ofcourse, no less is to be suspected from an American remake, but it's still astounding.
and it even has one of the guys from "Kids in the hall" playing Miles. who seems to be kind of sympathetic in the American version. which kind of figures.

Never saw the original, but I can imagine how awful the US remake will be... they usually manage to effectively take all that was good out of the show in order to make it pallatable for the US Public (or so they think because they obviously assume the US Public to be morons).!.

it's pretty incredible.
everything that was slightly hardedged now has become kind of self-consciously tongue-in-cheek.
the best character in the show was called Anna - a complete tough bitch, who would fuck anything she liked and kick anybody's ass.
now look at the original actress (left) and the American version (right)..

Great series, Milly was nice. Didn't go on too long either. Probably the only time I've willingly watched something featuring graphic gay sex, although the female nudity was always prominent. A US version seems daft as bananas anyway. This along with Common As Muck were two of my favourite British dramas... probably the only two actually

Yeah, British television isn't all it's cracked up to be. So, get off you high horse, please. I have experienced profound dissapointment with the bbc. Them and their fucking home improvement.

God, no one is on a high horse.
We're responsible for tons of shitty remakes over here.
