hi there - I'm not ashamed to say that I listen to, and
love, BBC Radio 4! So I've decided to form a club for other,
like-minded individuals (that basically means telica
probably) to regale the shipping forecast ;) and the
archers. Oh, and Gardeners' Question Time!

It's lucky I just finished that cup of Kellog's Frosties,
for I may have choked on one! How English humour that seems
of you, for a Dutchmun.

You had better believe it! Just A Minute is one of the
greatest shows ever devised! There was a television version
of it once, in the 70s or 80s! And I'm Sorry I Haven't A
Clue also is fasmo!

no, not really.

I would watch the BBC with my mother quite a lot, and we
would make comments in English, funnily enough.

did anyone hear the programme on monday morning about road
markings?
it was fascinating (no sarcasm intended).
i love random stuff like that. stuff you'd never tune in
especially to hear it, but is really interesting
nonetheless.

I didn't hear that one, but I do love the fact that you can
hear documentaries on the unlikeliest of subjects! I also
love some of the books they read -- there was one by a
former nun I was enjoying listening to -- "the spiral
staircase" I think it was called.

I have noted that there is no silence quiet like the silence
you hear in pauses on Radio 4. Listen out for them, they're
....eerie.

soothing.

It reminds me off my childhood.

I'm glad there are so many radio 4 listeners! I used to
listen to radio 5 a lot -- Up All Night was simply great
when it first started... it's not so hot now... :( now I'm
back to radio 4, the radio station of my youth ... I
remember once, late at night, hearing a play about this man
who had to sleep with another man to further his career...
it ended with him telling his sister that he actually quite
enjoyed it... my first gay awareness.

i hate it when the woman signs off for the night. she always
says something like 'now we're handing you over to the world
service. whatever you're doing tonight, have a good night'.
i HATE that.
the lovely man says 'and from all at radio4, wishing you a
very peaceful night'. i want his babies.

it would be better if she said "if you live on your own you
have more chance of being burguled. goodnight"

Radio4 is great. It's about the only radio I listen to.
Other than specialist music shows like John Peel, Mixing It,
The Breezeblock etc.
If I want to hear music, I put on a CD.. something I know
I'll like. But I could listen to Radio4 all day. I've
amassed so much fascinating (but largely useless)
information from this particular British establishment;
great for sparking conversation during lazy Sundays in the
pub.

The man who says goodnight IS great.
That whole final half hour on 4 between 12.30 & 1am reminds
me of long car journeys to see my relatives in Somerset &
Cornwall as a child.

Sigh.

I'm glad that there are others out there who recognise the
value of Radio4.

Just a minute is great. I remember waking up around noon
with a hangover from hell, hearing it for the first time...
made my day bearable.

lundy fastnet irish sea

yeah radio4 is the greatest. home truths is cool when still
drunk from the night before, all the stories work their way
into my dreams. roger deacon was on a week ago, just walking
about the countryside around his cottage recording sounds
like owls and the wind screaming down his chimney - his
descriptions were very soathing and i didnt want it to end.

There was a fascinating show on a couple of months ago,
about a sound engineer, and his recordings of insects... it
really inspired me, you'll note the inspiration in '01',
from my three-hour ambient project (since renamed 160 minute
ambient project).

you as a kid, just to hear voices talking. othertimes it
can get fucked with too much kalpol prescribed O_o
