We set up the name yesterday, but the concept has been in
our minds for months.

absorb.org finishes in august, we hope to at least partially
fill the vacuum they leave.

yes, we're not into the max/MSP experimental side of IDM,
there are plenty of sites that cover that stuff, we're into
the fun, pop side!

DSP'ed to death autechre wig-outs make me thrilled to be
alive. so suck it.

so you'll be covering more the city centre records type
sound? i do like that stuff actually. arovane, static =v
good.

i'm a little miffed at your endorsement of the much maligned
IDM moniker though. time to bury the snooty "intelligent"
bit. what's wrong with electronica? or glitch pop?

Yes, reviews and perhaps more importantly - interviews.
we're not pros at this malarky, but we do have close
connections with the london IDM scene, hence the opportunity
to give you great interviews/gossip/news!

offline r40f from qrters tea party on 2004-05-25 05:16 [#01205946]
Points: 14210 Status: Regular

well, i don't think there's anything inherently wrong with
knowledgeable reviews - sometimes this helps like-minded
fans check out more music and broaden their horizons. i
also think interviews and websites for the music we enjoy
are beneficial for the artists as well, so i like it when
they're around.

as for pop music and this totally new idea (to me, anyway)
of idm AS pop, which i'm not sure i even understand, i'm
just not interested personally. that sounds dumb.

but, do whatever you want - doesn't hurt anybody to have
another website about music.

The fact that it has IDM in the name attracts me to the
idea. I'm fed up of people giving indecipherable, paragraph
long descriptions of what something sounds like and then
when I hear it, I just think, oh they meant IDM? Why didn't
they say?

its like the name triphop...too late to try and pretend its
not a commonly accepted pigeonhole name....im just gonna go
along with it.

Yep- once it's been in circulation for a couple of years,
there's no way you can change it. Try renaming "rock and
roll" to "guitarcore" and getting the world to accept it.
You've got as much chance :P

I agree it's not an ideal name, but like many conventions,
once it's established, it's very hard to change. And threads
on "new name for IDM" bore me to death. It's been done to
death and nothing ever comes of it.

IDM is in fact an uberpretentious shit name. I'm embarrassed
to tell people what it really means whenever they ask.

i see your point. like.. if this was called "I love you know
that music that sounds kind of like dance music, but you
just want to sit in your chair and listen to it?"
