Orbital - Green album - atmospheric early house / techno, I
like it but younger peeps will find it too dated
Brown album - classic very atmospheric technoey(?) I say
10/10
Snivilisation - more "IDM", very good
In Sides - IDMey, maybe not quite as interesting as Sniv.
The rest - not great, tho Satan is good...

I saw their latest DVD and it was pretty boring.

I haven't heard the "Blue" album yet, I'm going to wait till
it's released, but the Hartnolls said they were going to
return to their old style a la the green album, so it should
be of no surprise that it's more club friendly. It's
probably straight-up late 80's-early 90's esque Techno.

I've just heard the first track and it's not all that
bad....I think...

Orbital have always been riding a fine line. On one side of
that line is cheese (fromage) and on the other, some of the
best electronica ever.

yeah... what the fuck happened after in sides? i once read
they invested lots of money to buy a completely new studio
surrounding after that album. maybe they shouldn´t have
done.

in sides is one of the best arranged electronic albums i´ve
ever heard in my life.

The stuff they released after insides didn't really have any
magic for me but i still have a massive amount of respect
for them. As i have been a fan for nearly ten years i never
once got bored of the first four albums.

disappointed for orbital have been crappy since middle of

no real parallel to the green album btw...

i didnt like insides very much.. i loved everything before
it. i thought middle of nowhere had some very good moments..
specially the Stlye versions/mixes on the cd5"s. they've
never been a favorite group of mine, but ive always held a
level of respect for them up there alongside the likes of
808state, the orb, etc... possibly even kraftwerk as far as
techno and techno experiments go. The brown album confused
the fuck outta me when it came out... i loved it, turned me
on my ear compared to other electronic music i was listening
to at the time.

loop......where time becomes a loop......where time becomes
a loop......where time becomes a loop......where time
becomes a loop......where time becomes a loop......where
time becomes a loop...

I have liked everything Orbital has put out so far... except
this...

No inspiration at all, can't even call it highly polished
club music, the melodies aren't of the caliber that they had
before. Just cutting a lot of corners from their previous
albums. Where's the love?

The songs have a heavy feel of the same heavy clu'b thumpers
that the Saint theme did, but without the amazing melodic
work. I mean don't get me wrong, there are some really cool
things happening in most of the songs, and I could definitly
see these working in clubs or on a soundtrack, but I can't
listen to them for the sake of listening to them

I went through the entire album looking for one song I'd
say... well... this makes up for the rest of it, since it is
their last album and all... but I couldn't find one. Ouch.

I think playing these tracks live the way they screw with
the loops would make it a good performance, but not in CD
format

the green and brown albums are awesome.

tunes like belfast, chime & the box blew me away when i
first heard them.

haven't had a chance to give the blue album a proper listen
yet.

this review seems to outline what i anticipate
happening when i listen to this album.
if it is a return to the sounds of old, then it's not going
to do anything new. But, if it's their swansong, then it's
going to be a far more retrospective experience anyway. we
shouldn't forget how good they are at what they do.

i only caught the tailend of their farewell glastonbury set
on tv. it looked and sounded great though. sad to see them
go. but better to end a career when it feels right than to
force it.

Fucking LOVE it. I'm not getting the hatred. The Altogether
was uninspired, cheesy pap. This is hardly an absolute
masterpiece, but it's a league above that, surely?
Anyway, I think this could well become my third favourite
Orbital album after In Sides and Brown. To be fair, Acid
Pants is appalling, but I truly love all the other tracks.
Transient is one of the most beautiful things they've done,
You Lot is a fantastic example of their great sampling
skills, Bath Time and Easy Serv show they are capable
of doing light hearted songs without them ending up cheap
and novelty (like The Altogether was), Pants and Tunnel
Vision are wonderful Orbital style club-ish tracks, and Lost
is one of the most beautiful things I've heard from the
guys. One Perfect Sunrise does sound a little like they're
trying too hard to recreate Belfast/Halcyon/The Girl With
The Sun In Her Head, but it's a nice track all the same.
But yeah. I really, really like this album.
