IDM Is a Lonely World, Baby

I only have one friend who is into IDM, and he's only
"sorta" into it. Every single one of my other friends
absolutely DESPISE it, and when I play it near them they
laugh at me or look at me violently like a right-wing dad
looks at his soon when he realises that he's gay.

For me, IDM is a lonely world. That's why im here @ xlt so
much..

well, when i got heavily into idm during my school years,
all my mates used to brag at parties, and namecheck all my
idm faves to people, trying to sound like they were into all
this 'crazy way out shit' when all they had was 'come to
daddy' on a cassette i made them... since going to
university to study music tho, i've met loads of people into
idm, noise & various other forms of electronica... despite
that tho, there is no scene at all here except for the
midnight radio show on 4zzz fm & the occassional gig...

When I was in University this year, I met alot of artschool
kids and there were much more tolerant. I even found some
people who were totally into it without me telling them what
it was.

But my core group of friends will forever hate it, and go
back to listening to Thrice.

My mates are getting into it more. Althought I don't think
they'll ever go the way of Snares which is a shame. Ah well,
i can't complain. They don't look at me funny.

I wish my girlfriend liked it more though.

no one I know really likes it... well, one person...

a missus I work with here in Holland likes some of it
though... I've lent her some Aphex Twin and she liked it...
so that's cool!

How come Come To Daddy, Venetian Snares and Autechre are all
labelled as IDM? To me they are very different types of
music. Just because I like one doesn't mean I like the
other. Not really sure what my point is but i'm sure there's
one there somewhere.

differrence.

i think thats being very broad... if you were labbelling
each one, it would be say, drillnbass... abstract
electronica etc etc, or in the case of venetian snares,
wank.

its pretty frustrating when your trying to tell your mate
the intricacies of tapr when all he's really thinking of is
faith no mores "we care a lot"

true story
