afx is an all rounder and ae isn't, therefore afx wins. end
of story.

what's so great about being an all rounder? incubus and
kosheen could both claim to cover lots of different styles,
doesn't make them any good at any of them though. if i want
lots of different styles i can just listen to lots of
different artists.

i think afx and ae are both overrated but that's only to be
expected, they were the pioneers (afx more so of course).
for my money i vastly prefer ae. i think afx has that more
instant, visceral, grabs-your-balls-and-shakes-em-around
emotional appeal. ae does not have less emotion, it's just
more subtle, more nuanced, more layered. an afx album is
like an instant endorphin rush, whereas an ae album keeps on
giving knew experiences even after 10, 20 listens. more
depth and complexity.
