Thanks man :)
I have tons of never finished tracks, I am getting closer to being able to finish them, but I don't have anything online at the moment. Hopefully someday I will settle down and stick with something till the end.
Another recent experiment with Max for any guttons for punishment :)

or something

Sort of. There are a couple of different sequences being triggered at the same time, all doing slightly different things.
Thanks teapot, all my beats are constructed myself from individual hits, I can't work with sample breaks for some reason, plus it gives you a lot more flexibility when it comes to effect triggering and isolation on certain hits.

This is nice, Army General Guy. I like the second one twenty times better, but the first one rocks the socks as well.

I like it a lot, it must have been a lot of work getting everything ready in max. Or have you modified other people's MAXmachines(autechre's :) )? Is that a granular effect or a vocoder(or both) on the drums in the first clip? Anyway, well done!

That max stuff has a unique sound. It is taking on shape and the sounds are of a good fairly analogue ish quality. However when compared side by side with something like ep7 or windowlicker it's as if the sounds are slightly dusty.. less boldly defining something crisply. And their sporaticness is more.. logical somehow. I don't know how max works, but if possible I recommend trying to compose at a lower octave then changing it back to the higher octave when done perhaps.

I can honestly say hand on heart that I have never so much as looked at someone elses Max/MSP patches. I just build my own. As for the granular/vocoder effects it is neither :D
It can be as basic or as complicated as you want it to be, and I know I am still very new to it, but I just keep experimenting and seeing what I can do.
I still don't feel comfortable enough to make a full track that I can be happy with.
Max/MSP itself has no sound, you basically do your own stuff from scratch using samples if you want. The dusty sounds of the beats are down to personal preference, I have another version of the first track which sounds really clean, but I don't like them that way :D

I have max1 on repeat while i write this. It feels like it could grow into something rather good. I think the melody is the strongest part of the track, the texture sounds almost too "tuned", i think maybe it could do with being more atonal. Obviously it's only a sample, but maybe some sort of ambient intro composed of real sounds would work, moving into the more "decayed" Max/MSP sound.
Max2 is a little too retro-sounding for me, but i like the crisp hissing textures low in the mix. The melody isn't as strong here, a little bit "midi" sounding, plus the beats sound like they should be stuttering and chopped up rather than so straightforward.
You clearly have talent though, it's not like i'm saying "whoa yeah, nice work dude, keep the dream alive" out of pity. Your music has complexity and depth, which is not something to be sniffed at.

The first one reminds me of some bubbling swamp... sunlight piercing through thick forest and glinting sharply off dirty water. The second puts me on some huge metal object floating through the bermuda triangle. I like the first one better, slap some fucking dirty bass down and pummel in a punishing rhythm a la 777 by Ae or Fulton Bobbaface by Datach'i and it might even make my playlist :D

See, whereas before your stuff sounded utterly alien and therefore interesting, it seems like now some kind of musical instinct is attempting to assert itself and the tracks sound like bad attempts at conventional music.
It is ever the curse of the anti-musician to at some point become merely a poor or mediocre musician.

Neat
I like the progression, really subtle sort of peaks through the beginning, great synth to add in, harmonics blend really well with the drums
Some really small things you could do with the timing on the drums that would make it sound a lot more... well... flowing. Like you're not quite sure on some of the beats whether you want to throw the beat off a little or put it where it fits with the beat. Makes it just a bit awkward to nod your head with it in places. Know what I mean?
Very cool experimentation, could lighten the sounds and make a really cool Autechreish beat out of it and play with those synths for a long time. Nifty!

haha thanks everyone. These are just experiments, never intended to be made into full tracks. :)
If I did ever change it to a really autechreish beat it would come across as nothing more than substandard sounding ae wannabe nonsense rather than just bad music nonsense. I would prefer to be classed as the latter.
thanks again :)

I really like both of these. If I had any idea how to use this Max/MSP thing, I might just turn into my own favorite artist :o
