the thing is, how exactly do you define "electronic" nowadays?
many styles of music now use synths and digital effects and such to aid in the sound.
i know i'm gonna get the piss taken out of me for this post, but it's a serious statement.
just where do you draw the line?

sorry, i didn't explain myself very well. i meant what aritsts other than electronic music do you listen to, rather than general styles, and i'd like to know why you enjoy them, and perhaps if you enjoy these more?

Hip Hop a lot of abstract electroacoustic stuff (including field recordings and improv artists) that doesn't really fit into most people's concept of what electronic music is
lots of old funk, soul, and reggae rock avant-classical classical jazz african funk from the 50's-70's other "ethnic" music folk
... and yeah... other stuff... you know, bleh

Obviously digital production is everywhere so personally I drew the line as electronic = compositions who's primary content, theme and concepts are generated electronically.

thankx tolstoyed, i can see how groups such as massive attack, almost on the borderline of electronica (like portishead, for example) can fit into someones ideology as appreceative music. im a mills/clarke person myself, more of a technohead, really getting into this ambient type of music for the 1st time.

if you're a fan of ambient... and are open-minded to more experimental stuff... there's tonnes of really crazy good ambient-abstract-glitch-noise type stuff that you might want to hear... who are some of your favourite ambient artists?

I listen to underground hip hip, though technically it is electronic. The same can even be said of pop and R&B music, given that production is aided by keyboards, samplers, computers, etc.
As for genuine acoustic music, I like early jazz (e.g. Miles Davis & John Coltrane) and I'd like to explore more of it. I'm quite fond of John Cage's prepared piano as well.

Aksak Maboul 'Un peu de l'Ame des Bandits' is a BOMB!!!! It must be a first listen. It's their second album, first was 'Onze dances pour combattre la migraine', it's absolutely different, not as good as 'Un peu de l'ame'. There seems to be a third record under the name Aksak Maboul, but it's very hard to get.
