Nacmat, for talk about this new competition we can use
soulseek chat or AIM.

I've not computer at home yet, so on Saturday and Sunday I
will be off. We should prepare the groups and decide the
official date when Xltronic Championship 2004 will start.
I'm ready to enter inside the battle and help you to manage
the game.

I am on soulseek now: nacmat

I have some ideas

offline nacmat on 2004-05-19 02:00 [#01194981]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker

this what I would do:

we will have 32 artists
so we do 8 groups of 4 artists each group

how do we do this groups?

we put the artists in order of qualification:
so the 12 that are already qualified go from 1 (aphex) to
12

then positions from 13 to 32 are determined by the voting we
are doing now

once we have 32 artists with their numbered position from 1
to 32

I would do this:

8 leaders for 8 groups (one leader per group): these are the
first 8 in last years competition:
group A)1. Aphex Twin
group B)1. Autechre
group C)1. Boards of Canada
group D)1. squarepusher
group E)1. orbital
group F)1. ovuca/astrobotnia
group G)1. uziq
group H)1. plaid

8 vice-leaders for the 8 groups(second leader of the
group):
these would be artists 9-12 from last years competition plus
artists that get from 1 to 4 in this voting round:

09. f.s.o.l --------------------for group H
10. jega ---------------------for group G
11. bola ----------------------for group F
12. brothomstates-----------for group E
13 - 16: artists voted 1-4 inthis voting round

I would order them in the inverse way, so number 9 would go
in the group were number 8 was, and number 12 would go to
the group of number 1:

group a: 1, 16, 24 and 32
group b: 2, 15, 23, 31
group c: 3, 14, 22, 30
group d: 4, 13, 21, 29
...
...
group h: 8, 9, 17, 25

this way the most voted artists dont have to fight so soon

see, it was really important who the first 12 were last
year, cos it can mean lots of problems for some top artists

from the first moment.

also the pre-stage voting will determine lots of things, as

being first in the pre stage will mean an easy group maybe,

but being the 20th will mean to be in group A with aphex

understand?

offline nacmat on 2004-05-19 02:03 [#01194984]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker

first league: (1/32 finals)
8 groups of 4 each----------- first two in each group go to

1/16 finals

second league: (1/16 finals)
4 groups of 4 each----------- only first in each group will

make it to the great: FINAL FOUR

FINAL FOUR:
with the classical semifinals and final, if possible these
will be via official xltronic polls

offline korben dallas from nz on 2004-05-19 02:27 [#01195004]

so 1/16 finals will be these 4 groups ?:

1) best 2 of ea., A & H
2) best 2 of ea., B & G
3) best 2 of ea., C & F
4) best 2 of ea., D & E

WOW the books is in top 20 with only 3 people voting for
them/him/her

which shows that this way of voting gives too much
importance to the order in which you vote:

two lord swordmen: 4 people voted for them... they are in
89th position

the books: 3 people voted for them... they are in top 20,
qualified

next year there wont be such a diference between first and
tenth choice of votes

I never listened anything by fennesz

I don't know who are gridlock, the books and philip jeck.
...And they're all temporary qualified to Xltronic
Championship.

What's happening to big names as Mira Calix, Two Lone
Swordsmen, Nightmare on Wax, Bochum Welt, Drexcya, Marco
Passarani, D'Arcangelo, Bany Ford, Mouse on Mars, etc...?!?
They're all out of the race, I'm surprised...

good thing about this way of vote counting:

lots of surprises

doubtful thing:

it gives more importance to an artist voted 2 times in first
place than to an artist voted 15 times in 7th place (which
means that 15 people think it should be in top 10)

normally we get about 50 people voting... and we are near
that number... so everything is going fine

its impossible to get like 200 people voting, cos many
people dont like these things, or are just too lazy to look
at the list and decide a vote...

my experience from last 2 editions is that about 50 people
will in this round (maybe more this year anyway) and about
30 people will vote in each of the groups in next round

then in the semifinals and final a bout 50 poeple will vote
in each

but those are good enough numbers

53 people have already voted... we are doing great!!!

and this is still open till sunday... so some regulars that
havent still voted due to work can do it in the weekend

maybe we get to 70 votes or so... and that would be a record
of participation for sure

so far the last qualified artist (the one in position number
20) has 25 points, I guess at the end 30-40 points will be
the barrier for qualification and that means lots of votes
or 4 or 5 people voting that artist in first place... so it
will be earned anyway

offline nacmat on 2004-05-19 04:07 [#01195143]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker | Followup to tolstoyed: #01195137

that doesnt matter... the number of regulars is about the
same... you cans ee that from people voting in the polls

polls are there for a week or so... and normally they get
like 150-200 votes

so that leads me to think that the real number of regulars
in this MB is around 200

but we cannot expect 200 votes, cos many people find this
too complicated or just dont care at all

nacmat, in the last championship2003 the single group battle
was 24 hours long, what we can do for this new edition? 1
day for group, 2 day, what you suggest?

HOW DO I VOTE?

you can vote to 10 artists maximum.
vote in order of preference cos the first gets more points,

it goes like this:

first choice: 10 points
second: 8 points
third: 6 points
4th: 4 points
5th: 3 points
6th: 2 points
7th: 1 point
8th: 1 point
9th: 1 point
10th: 1 point

VOTES THAT WILL NOT COUNT:

people who vote for more than 10 artists (in this case we
will just count the first 10)

people who vote for artists not in the list (in this case no

vote will be counted, doesnt matter if only one of the 10
was not in the list, why? cos I dont wanna go crazy
searching for artists that are not in the list)

if you vote for an alias that is in the list under another
alias I wont count that vote, reason? the same, I dont wanna

go crazy

is just a matter of making things eaiser for me, so thanks
in advance for colaborating

It would mean a very long championship (3 of July i will go
on holiday [Formentera this year])
Maybe 2 days are too much... maybe it could lose a little
bit of interest after the 1st day.
I remember in the previous edition, most of the votes were
in the first hours then really few votes (latecomers).
Sometime "short and intense" is better too much long.
Maybe I'd also ask an opinion to the voter members.
