tracks you're ashamed to like

Board is seeming a little sluggish, so I'll pull something
out of my ass. There _must_ be some things you feel bad
about appreciating. For me it's Bjork Joga (I'm not an
emotional person, and hate vocals, but listen to this every
5 months or so) and vletrmx (before you choke me with my
intestines--I'm just bothered by being affected so strongly
by something so simple (and yes there are millions of things
in life like this (and those people that argue that all
strong messages are inherently simple (you can agree if you
like (I feel like I'm writing in scheme (lambda (x) (lambda
(x) (lambda (x) x))))))))

(I'm writing crappy since lack-of-sleep, sorry)

Music isn't some competition to be seen as having more cool
tastes than the person next to you. I like a piece of music
because I like it and nothing else enters the equation. A
lot of people on here take the piss out of the fact that I
like Dire Straits. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Well, like I said, I don't like vocals, and I'm not an
emotional person; I would go more in depth but then people
would think I'm making some statement and judging them and
war would break out main screen turn on what happen

monoid: you mean you listen to everything and have no taste

I can here the congregatoin down the street
screaming, and I'm definitely not ashamed to fucking hate
that.

Well, of course I don't just mean exterior judgement, but
also interior. I always want to be able to rationally
justify tastes of mine--if for some reason I start liking
something which goes against principles of mine, or has more
blemishes than other things which I don't like, of course
I'm going to be irritated with myself.

it's more a hypothetical shame than anything else--I've
never played vletrmx for someone in real life so..

I didn't read 95% of what you wrote, sorry. Seems to be a
general problem around here.. But anyway I definitely don't
want to like something just because I like it. Why? Because
that doesn't exist--humans are chemical state machines and
everything has an explanation, albeit possibly complicating,
contradictory, and/or confusing. I always try to analyze
those things just like I analyze all details of my dreams.
Maybe it brings about schizophrenia, paranoia, or other
devastating psychological disorders, but I just like to have
all sorts of indicators of what goes on in me skull..

lately.

I agree with ceri, any compistion of music can be
scrutinised and pounded into oblivion by anyone, until
someone composes teh perfect song we'll all be listening to
crap, so get over it, whatever you listen to seems shameful
to someone, so stop chickening out of your feelings and just
accept who you are, stop being a coward.

also, I like a LOT of j-pop

some gabba, I suppose it's the least classy stuff I listen
to, I'm definitely not ashamed of it though

wow, that came out sounding more agressive than I intended,
I apologize,

also, I was in the car today with three other NOTHING BUT
METALLICA metal heads today, and had j-pop blaring thh
entire trip, I didn't feel akward about it, I didn't put it
on to annoy them, I just felt like listening to it at the
time, no one said anything though, they just ignored it, if
they had gave their opinion it woukldn't have amttered
anyway

it's east describing something you like but cannot find a
"technichal reason" to liking, you simply like the
aesthetics and texture of it,

the most technicahlly brilliant song can still sound like
arse to you if it has no aesthetics and texture to it,
without that there is absolutely no point to music in the
first place,

music is an art not a math

You don't like music with vocals, that is wierd... and
seeing as you're not 'emotional', you only enjoy emotionless
instrumental music? Man that must be boring :P

good topic, sneakattack.

ceri you described very concisely what I think.
you like something because it causes your
body to reward you chemically.
*what* it rewards you chemically *for*,
is an evolving process, and has to do with
how you started out in music and how you
progress.

anyway, Baby One More Time by britney,
as performed by MrBungle, which is way
crappier.

I recall Busta Rhymes - Woohah (got you all in check) being
my favorite song back in spring of 1996. I still think it's
kinda catchy.

don't think I'm ashamed of any stuff I listen to to be
honest.

I like Dire Straits too. Brothers in arms was a good album.
I first listened through it when I was 16 and drunk at my
parents' Christmas party. My older brother snuck me out to a
club and my parents found out I was missing and went apeshit
on our asses. Good memory, good tunes.

My guilty pleasure song pick would be:
Daft Punk - Something About Us

this is a good topic.

mine is: electroclash. (fischerspooner, tiga, swayzak,
xlover, all those other bandwagon hoppers). i wouldn't say
i'm ashamed, more that i'm ambivalent, my feelings are
divided. on the one hand i love the synths, the electro
beats, the ridiculous lyrics, and think it's all good fun
and great club music which doesn't scare the pretty ladies
away; on the other hand, i hate with a passion the
mullet-haired, £80 retro t-shirt wearing motherfuckers who
frequent such clubs.

i suppose i'm ashamed because it's considered "cool" to be
into electroclash, and i don't want to be perceived as
someone who just likes things because of such reasons. so
ultimately i'm just as superficial as those people who like
it specifically because they read about it in The Face.

There's nothing I'm really ashamed to like. Though I try not
to let people hear me listening to Corey Hart's ''Sunglasses
at Night''. But I know it's a classic, there's no INTERNAL
struggle there.

damn straight it's a classic!

what do you think of the tiga & zyntherius cover? superior
to the original IMO. tom middleton's mashup of it with new
order's blue monday ('blue sunglasses') is well worth a d/l.
