Its been a few months, the initial wave of the usual new-album-hype has gone and we've all had a chance to digest "Ultravisitor" at our own pace.
We all know Squarepusher is an aquired taste. I know, i, as a massive fan, have alway taken a while to get into every nuance of his works. I think they require long term absorbtion before the real beauty emerges.
So whats the verdict?
I FUCKING LOVES EVERY BIT OF IT! - the pace/flow - the melodies - the strecthed out noise - the bass tomfoolery - the live elements
* "Ultravisitors" percusion-bleed * "Tetra Syncs" momentum freakout * "District line 2" subtleness * "Stenbolt" just owns
Squarepusher masters all.

i loved it from the first time i laid my ears on it. the hype around it was kinda crazy, many starting a new topic after another to state their opinion about it.
it got some really good songs there like tetra sync, iambic, circlewave and ultravisitor. never been much of a steinbolt fan ,many seemed to rave about that track but it just doesn't click with me.
with this album he really shows what he's musicly capable of, which is alot. it doesn't matter what instrument he uses, he knows how to work it really well. there's bit of every squarepusher flavor on it.

My first resposne was "hmm... okay, but nothing special." Perhaps I was put off by the Squarewindow promo (which I maintain is pretty weak by Tom's standards). However, over time it has grown on me a lot. So much so that I ordered a copy and it should be with me tommorow.
Ever since I first heard it I had an immense respect for it from a technical POV (drum programming = *gasp* sooooo tight), I just didn't think I'd listen to the "music" much. As I say, it has grown on me a lot (Tetra-Sync's percussion is fantastic) and I like it now. So, for me, it has gone from being a 6 to an 8/9 (out of 10) album.
On the other hand, maybe I just decided I liked it when I heard about Tom pushing Pomme! ;-P

Like Ceri, my first few listens had me thinking "This is technically incredible", but it didnt totally hit me. Now I treat the album as a voyage. At the right times it can be a triumph. But I have to be in the right mindset when I listen to it.

At first I loved it, then I got tired of it, now I'm liking it a lot more. It's a very oddball album.

what I like:
every track
but also: the way it is so slow and calm down from time to time... it gives you time to rest... then it has crazy moments and always lots of jazzy feeling
its like a place with lots of mountains, snow, forests, rivers...

i think it's great.. a little of all squarepusher styles Yes.. maybe just alittle bit too much noise for my taste.. it's a really long record.. and it would be nice if he used some more of that time for "real" tracks
dont get me wrong thou, 85% of it is super! it's my current fav record and i have had it since it was released and im listening to it allot!
good evening!
