Summer

I won't be able to run it on my computer, and I'll have to wait for the Xbox version.
But I can't WAIT for the reviews and the reaction on video game messageboards after it hits.

i'll be making sure i get hold of this game as soon as i can, and once i do get hold of it i'll give a short review
but maybe i'm not the best kind of reviewer because i'm biased - DOOM in my opinion is the best game in the world :)

well yeh, because it does take time to release a game - especially when a certain industrial musician spends a while to make music for it, and then backs out half way through :(
i really hope Reznor get's his act together for the new album

yes, but when they say it's announced for the summer, you know it will maybe be out in the fall.
it has also been announced that Halflife 2 will be coming out "somewhere in the summer", so perhaps somewhere in 2005, 2006-ish.

as far as i know, id ditched 320x240 since Quake III Arena (i can't get any lower than 640x480 on my iBook anyways).
i'm just hoping that i'm gonna be able to run it reasonably well on my PowerBook *fingers crossed*
i can't stand playing games that judder or anything - they HAVE to be "real time" responsiveness, else i will throw a hissy fit

It looks very good on Xbox, the trailer for it was nearly indistinguishable. It'll look wonderful, plus it has Xbox Live online co-op, which the PC version doesn't. I'd definitely rather have it on PC, but you're not missing much, especially if you play it on a big HDTV.

which reminds me to ask this pppho0urum; Is there an easy way to hook up like, 10 consoles to one tv? I have a mad catz doohicky which allows 4 things to be hooked up (since the vcr/dvd/each console has the audio and video outputs) which you switch between. But already I have to un/replug the vcr and dvd when I want to change. I hate technology, but it's my surrogate activity you see.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of the PC and Xbox Doom 3s. PC on the left, Xbox on the right. The angles and lighting
are slightly different, so you can't make a concrete judgement, but you can see that the port is darn good, and you're getting an amazing looking game either way. Gamespot had glowing reviews for the Xbox version.
There's no way this game would run on a PS2, fuhgeddaboutit.
But you can get a used Xbox for 80 bucks, that'll save you the 1500 dollars you'll need to get a CPU that will run this bad boy.

But if you want a killer app FPS for PS2, look no further than Killzone. Looking amazing for a PS2 game, and still has months of polish left to be put on it. And the atmosphere looks freaky. Look at the detail on that destroyed building. The environments are huge.

It IS better, it's higher res and has more polygons. You get what you pay for, babycakes. The detail is pretty much intact, though. It's a downgrade, but it's really slight.
The dynamic lighting and everything is 100% intact, so you'll get scenes from like the left one in both of them.
And that's definitely a more intimidating pose on the right, there. With more flattering lighting.

"But you can get a used Xbox for 80 bucks, that'll save you

That's true, but there's no way I'd ever play a game like that with a joypad :| and I need the new cpu+gfx card+soundcard for more than just games (Ok maybe not the GFX card :P).
Anyway, just D/L'd the Hi-res DOOM3 trailer to verify lushness, and must agree that it looks to be a good one, except for in the end when they showed some gritty action-bits one after another. That's when it went fairly choppy :\
I think they were heavily inspired by the trailer to "Alien" for this one. Slow build up, sound of a heart beating, very dark, creepy flashlight effects showing things moving but not sure what etc. etc.
In fact I think that one of the critters in Doom3 is a direct rip from the Alien hybrid in Alien:resurrection! Check out the similarities.
