nb just submit a link to your music - this isn't the championship yet, so if you don't have the tracks you want up, yet, you have two weeks yet to upload them / organise the site :) this is just so a) we know you're in, b) we know where your music will be when the time comes :)

Top idea, I don't mind at all, I think it'd be good to have a simple central page where you could see the list of people and easy link to the files. I haven't got loads of space so I guess if people's files are easily accessible from somewhere I could just link them, but if people like Big have them hosted somewhere SPAZZY and inaccessible I am happy to host it for them.
I've got MySQL as well on the site so we could set up some kind of voting thing, or any kind of feature I suppose that might make the whole process easier if you can think of anything.

Yeah, well enough to say, set up a database of artists and their tracks, and then anything that would help keep track of the wholoe affair, if you can think of any ideas.

yeah..
set something like this up
mysql-table:
index (auto_increment) artist_name songname song_href votes
that should be enough, I think..
then you create the page.. just a simple list of all the contestants. Now.. the problem is: how to stop a person from voting 50 times for him/herself? if you do a vote-button, you'll also need a ip-detect thingie that remembers ip's.. but that won't really be safe either, 'cause people can log-on at a different computer... so.. you'd need some sort of log-on system.. or.. voting could be done in a thread here, or by mail...
i think the easiest thing to do is to make a page WITHOUT voting, and start adding artists...
that's pretty easy... can you make it, or should I make it and mail it to you?

on voting: I'd do it in a thread - keeps the possibilities of cheating at an acceptable level.

It just seems to me like it would be a lot more productive to post links to tracks in this thread, and have it be a compendium of tracks as opposed to pages. Less hassle in the long run.

Well between myself and Drunken Mastah we put together a basic page which could serve to list all the participants, and link to their songs. I have just put up a couple as I am not sure you even want this, and the links are just to sites at this point, rather than tracks, as I think Marlowe says earlier.
Anyways, if it's a good idea then we can add all the names and links in this one easy to view list which is here. Or we can take it down and go merrily about our business.

The way I saw it, there would be a seperate thread for each Table/Group : the thread would begin with the list of artists, their names being links to their music. Then the thread would be given over to people voting for an artist (or top two etc). After a set time (two-weeks possibly), the voting period would be over, and the two top-voted artists progress to the knock-out stage.

No genre-only restrictions, no restrictions on when tracks were composed. It's simply submit a track(s), any track that you've done, and let people decide upon that. See, I personally don't want it to be "submit ONE track and be judged upon that", because I, for one, make tracks of all different kinds, and people need to here some kind of range of my music to form an informed opinion ;) For artists who make tracks that all sound the same, just one would suffice :D
