You might even argue that you have a moral responsibilty to watch it- only after you have seen it yourself can you make your own judgement as to whether or not it's fake and whether you should let it affect your view of the situation in Iraq.
I do think it being online as "just another twisted video" dampens the effect of it a bit though... I mean, the kills in Manhunt are nastier to watch. It's too easy for people to write it off if they see it online. If a proper quality video of it had been shown on the news in the west, people would be a lot more offended by it (offended is the wrong word I suppose, shocked would be a bit better).

Knowing it is real is what makes it worse than Manhunt...you may be able to fake visuals but you can't fake the sounds of a man being killed...and that video is real as they come. I have saw the high quality version today. I think the idea of it being a twisted video to watch purely for enjoyment is a bit stupid...and it's sad some people get enjoyment from this sort of thing.

who cares?
so im a coward for not watching it?
please.
what if his family were my neighbors and I knew them personally?
does that then justify NOT watching it for moral reasons?
?????
you don't think much about it.
me, i just think it justifies in my own mind how sick this world is.

I can't think how you seem to come to the conclusion that by not watching it you are being more moral than someone who does.
If you chose not to watch it because his family were not your neighours then that could possibly be out of respect for their wishes, but it certainly isn't a moralist issue.

i think the only way morals play a role in watching the video is why you want to watch it. maybe there are immoral reasons to want to see it, and maybe there are moral ones. maybe they're neither. i don't know, of course.

I don't mean you'd neccessarily get enjoyment as such from it- just the sort of thing guys would watch over mates houses and laugh about, "watch this sick video". Ask yourself seriously what sort of percentage of people DLed it purely to decide for themselves its authenticity or for "good" reasons and what percentage did it for a cheap thrill/out of morbid curiosity and I think you'll find the latter are probably in the majority.
I agree, even with a lot of digital distortion, the sounds were far more shocking than the visuals. No amount of voice acting can replicate that...

i just feel bad about how hte internet and shit treats stuff like this, not nec. this one in particular; but it def has a negative approach.
I don't need to satisfy anyones needs but my own.
personally, i can do without watching this video. i usually have a curiosity that allows me to watch almost anything, but this....just no fuking interest.
I guess what I'm saying is, how many people just pass this off online as something 'cool'
like, my own friends are spamming it to me like DOOD DID YOU SEE THIS YET ?
like it's some kind of "cool, funny video" that gets passed around the interweb

I agree, that's the only moral issue here:
Watching it because you get kicks from it = bad.
Watching it to steel yourself against being "shockable" = fairly neutral.
Watching it because you're an expert in video manipulation and you want to check it for authenticity, with a possible view to exposing it as a fake/confirming it as real = good.

Yeah, it's like that guy who ODed on pills on webcam, sure it's funny and the "I TOLD YOU I WAS HARDCORE" jokes make me laugh, but you can't help but feel it is a bit desensitizing and you'd react differently if it was on CNN/BBC news as opposed to grainy .MPG and off the net.

when you get a DS-3 (from the telco) you are allocated a range of IP address (public) to use on that interface...whether it be a fully channalized DS-3 into DS-0s (T1s) or full on the same circuit.
if your college is passing out Public IP address (via dhcp) then sure, you could change yuor ip address to a known static range....
but most likely they are handing out private IP addresses and doing simple NAT'ing (net address translation)
Doing NAT is something most shchools do so they
a) dont each up thouands of public IPs b) they are able to restrict port forwarding, so many ppl can't run services that require a dedicated port to communicate on (i.e., ftp servers, game servers, etc).

I knew what you meant :P
Morbid curiosity is natural...observing death from a 'safe distance' is something a lot of creatures do. I watched it because
a) I wanted to be able to comment about it from a position of knowledge.
b) I wanted to judge the content for myself.
I can see how some people would choose not to watch it. Immediately after I watched it the first couple of times I sort of wish I hadn't. Now I am glad I did.

The sounds are the worst part about it. I think most people could just about stomach the visuals...but the sounds are haunting.
If you feel even slightly worried about watching it, then that is a certain sign not to watch it.
I watched it about 5 times in all last night. I haven't watched it since and I doubt I ever will.

yes, it definately is. and this disregard for human life goes on all over the place by all kinds of people. sometimes, because of the circumstances it just really strikes you more than others, i suppose. even seeing the part of the tape without the violence and knowing what was to come has a huge impact on how much it effects me.

the crazyest part of this whole thing for me, is that I NEVER look at crazy shit on the internet or elsewhere for that matter, but when i read about this yesterday on bbc, i felt it was my duty as a human being to see it. i mean, all the last twoo weeks we have all been seeing images of iraqi prisoners who were tourtured and humilliated, i know that this is "different" A. because someone was killed and B. because he wasn't a war prisoner, however our world is being filled with so much violent imagery that we can't help but not turn our heads because we know it is real, current and impacting our lives.
Check this out: the last thing i had downloaded before the clip was the theme song from a kids show (noozles late 80's nick jr.) and now this.
ironiclly, the file i downloaded only had the sound file, as i has been mentioned above, that was enough.
