The first 2 hours with no score is all a dream. Only the
last 20 minutes take place "for real". There, now go
understand it. Some of the chicks are the same person also.

probably my hate for lynch is more a reaction to my mates,
who talk about him 24/7 and think he is the be-all and
end-all of cinema

I love him but then again I have no friends who talk about
him.

Lol I wouldn't say *easy* to understand on 2nd viewing; I am
still having trouble getting my head around it after several
viewings. :s

I don't think my irony quite came through as much as I hoped
it to.

The thing is, someone explained the movie to me like this
and I was supposed to understand it based on that. Yeah
right. I still don't understand all of it. I can understand
the dream bits with Naomi's character being very special
(the audition and getting the girl), but alot of it is just
too weird.

overrated bollocks in my opinion, left me feeling cold and
like I coulda spent the time it took to watch doing
something worthwhile, but then a lot of people love it and
i've argued too much about this film!

i agree! it was ok, but just because it was david lynch,
everyone hyped it up... in my opinion blue velvet was wayyy
better.

Nadja is the only lynch flick i enjoyed to some extent... i
tried and tried to like Lost Highway due to me being a
massive NIN fan, but alas... it wasnt to be.

This is a really good analysis of Mulholland Drive.

I appreciated the film a lot more after reading these
insights.

Hm. Reading over this again for the first time in a while.
I kind of get the feeling that Lynch's movies are tied
together kind of like King's Dark Tower ties into most of
his other books. There seems to be the a similar kind of
'behind the scenes' spiritual evil element that flows
throughout. Other cross-references keep popping up too,
some of which they mention in that review. Interesting.

production, just behind twin peaks. mulholland dr. is a
beautiful film. twin peaks changed my life.

p.s. my crush on naomi watts is also mad.

think i've changed my mind about this film, has to be the
most straight forward weird film he has made... his films
are better when they are more abstract and surreal and don't
quite make sense.

When everything ties up neatly as it does in this film it
leaves a bad taste, thankfully Inland Empire was more like
how a Lynch film should be, i'd like to see someone figure
out that film!

i find the visual and aural aspect was great, i enjoyed the
acting and situations/scenes too. but sadly i have no idea
how to put the puzzle together.
its one of those movies where the story doesnt matter

The thing with Inland Empire though is that there's nothing
to work out. It's just a bunch of shit that happens.

exactly, its like a nightmare on screen, its brilliant

whereas Mulholland drive is just a simple story with one
part being a dream and the other reality. Once you figure
that out its about as interesting as an episode of
Neighbours.

one of my favorites films ever. still lynch but without that
too much opressive/dark atmosphere hes used to... theres all
kind of emotions inside, it makes me laugh, it makes me
fear, it makes me love, it makes me cry : silencio...

Even if you hate the story the music and atmosphere makes up
for it. Simply one if not the best music theme of ever!

yeah the music is excellent, as is the sound design... I
love how almost as much effort goes into the sound as the
visual aspects in Lynch's films

second best lynch film

after Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

I love when the dude walks behind the coffee shop and that
fucked up dirty man pops out and makes the dude have some
sort of seizure.

yes great sound design (as with all lynch films)

The actor might technically be a woman, but the character is
a man.

Talking about his dream, the guy clearly said: "There's a
man in back of this place."
