there's a whole lotta neato bands out there that are
loosely though of as "rock" that are very, very interesting
and different and i want to eat them all up!

post your favourite over-the-top "rockers" here:

There are many crazy bands under the genre "mathcore". Crazy
...

i only listen to mainstream rock bands. unfortunatelly...not
enough time to check many bands, as i somehow prefer
electronic music.

Ok here goes (the main characteristic is ofcourse
dicordance):

Today is the day "temple of the morning star"(fucked up
melodies)
The Dillinger Escape Plan "calculating infinity"(superb
musicianship/breathtaking changes of pace)
Botch "we are the romans"/"an anthology of dead ends"(weird
discordant riff-fuckery)
Playing Enemy "cesarean"(power trio from seattle)
Isis "celestial"/"sgnl>05"(sludgy heaviness that stretches
to ambient synthetical forms-not mathcore for the record)
Oh and Godflesh... whatever you get your hands on... every
record they made is brilliant.

Well that shit will keep you occupied for a while. If you
need more information... well tell me.

Well I'll check some of the bands you mentioned. I haven't
really given much attention to the whole indie scene(no such
scene exists of course) and I'm probably missing out. Uh
check out Melt Banana. By the way mathcore as a term of
classification is as idiotic as IDM.

Hella are fucking insane. I was meaning to check them out a
few weeks ago but my hd gave up on me and I lost all the
stored data. You HAVE to check phantomsmasher. They're quite
similar with the addition of fucked up blastbeats and tons
of digital manipulation. Oh they also got a split single
with VSnares.

yeah i played that snares track on the radio last week...
it's a shame that it's so obscure (relative to everything
else he did last year)... because it's definitely the best
track he did last year.... i must hear more phantomsmasher

sounds like it could be tasty... i've never heard any bardo
pond before... it's something i've been meaning to do for a

and while i'm on that end of things... i should recommend
Stars of the Lid... nice long form droney ambient guitar
stylings....

late-night acoustic hashish awesomeness... and on that
tangent i'd like to recommend all things tom carter

Charalambides
Scorces

two very fucked up drone bands... it's real cool these bands
have multiple low-key cd-r releases... and you can feel all
elite for having heard them... :P

Sightings
Gang Gang Dance
Excepter

Gang Gang Dance review in the Wire:

"The art-rock underground in Brooklyn is always percolating,
but lately there's something scalding in the water,
considering the brilliantly disparate sounds of Sightings,
Animal Collective, Double Leopards, Excepter, Mouthus, all
the outsider outfits on the Space is No Place compilations,
and so much more. Gang Gang Dance just might be the tip of
this sky-high geyser; this LP, their first official release
(aside from last years super-limited Revival of the Shittest
CD-R), is an absolute mind-washer, two side-long tracks of
elongated vocals, 3-D percussion, electronic breakdowns, and
skin-raising noise. ..no one could've predicted the bracing
originality of their new ensemble." - Marc Masters, WIRE.

if you like those bands, you may enjoy Converge. i have
their split ep with Hellchild and their lp Jane Doe - both
are exceptional records.

Hellchild is also incredible - one of the best
death/grind/etc metal bands ever!

Yeah I have all of their records in one form or another. My
favorite converge stuff are "Jane Doe" (especially the first
3 tracks), the "poacher diaries" split with agoraphobic
nosebleed and "when forever comes crushing down". I think
they can be absolutely perfect but they eventually mess up a
bit in everyone of their records. They are about to release
a new album "you fail me". I can hope that it will kick ass.
