so. about a week ago (the day before i was supposed to leave for california to experience coachella) there i was, sitting in my car, just minding my own business when SD)"FHSD)OPOW!!~!! this young lady plows her little 2003 honda civic into the back of my already battered 1988 acura integra (well. mechanically it's been a fantastic car). holy smoke i was soooo pissed off. it knocked me into the car in front of me and fucked up my hood and both bumpers, and buckled that rear panel on the passenger side. $3500 estimate. ouch. so i can't take this car to california anymore, because i can't even get the hood open to change the oil (put oil IN it, more likely, since the car leaks it like mad).
so i phone up her insurance place and make a claim and blah blah blah. i go get a rental car, hoping that in the next few days they'll accept liability and authorize payment for my rental car (which finally just happened this morning. yeesh. i was beginning to freak out. $39 dollars a day? yipe!). i'm currently driving a chevy impala. god, they're shitty (but, actually, it made the drive to california much easier).
anyways, i'm not sure where i meant to go with all of this...but. uhm. anybody know how these things usually work out? dealt this anything like this? my car is only worth about $1500-$2000. when they total it out, what do they do? try and give me the value of the car then make me sign it over to them? because really i'd just like my car fixed. it was a great little car. and i doubt i'm gonna find another car that's had so much money recently put INTO it and has as few problems for $1500. and i can't be bothered shopping around for something. i just don't have the time.

chances are you'll get reimbursed for the cost of getting a new, equally-as-mediocre car.

If your car was worth about $1500-$2000 they will normally write the car off as unrepairable and offer to settle with you for about $1000.

very uncool. this is the same insurance company that fucked me on my motorcycle accident claim, though, so i'm up to the challenge, i think. they'll not get me a second time. i hope?

Most insurance companies are the same.
Normally I make false claims with the same companies for tons of other stuff that way I feel I am getting value for money.
