Good luck Key_secret, that will surely be funny but also
difficult, especially if the weather is bad ; personnaly i
would rather have done such a thing in summer but you seem
to like adventure so... good luck again ! You should take a
camera with you and take a photo each hour then put them on
the board the day after with a little text for each one :
that might be a lot of fun for all of us. ;)

lol, I think I have a cold :D

it's so awesome that we all managed to go out and do the
same thing, almost any other messageboard and this sort of
thing would sure as hell not happen, and WE ALL FAILED HOW
COOL ARE WE!

we have the honour of making the first ever idm listener
stereotype! "those idm guys are nuts, they'll give anything
a go nomatter how silly it is, and then they back out
becuase they're not stupid enough to endure their own silly
spare of the moment idea"

I love you guys

this most excellent canopy, the air, look you, this brave
o'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with
golden fire - why, it appears no other thing to me than a
foul and pestilent congregation of vapours.

conversly i'm going to spend 24 hours in bed.

This thread makes for a very pleasant read, well done guys
even if you didn't stay the course for 24 hours.

I love doing stay-outdoors-for-ages type shit. However you
made some schoolboy errors!

1. No hot drink provision. shoulda taken a camping stove.
2. No hot food provision besides beans! it's all about the
disposable bbq, proper lightweight i tell thee.
3. No speakers. you gots to blast the music, makes you feel
like you have control of the scary outdoor environment,
albeit via 1kW speakers with no bass.

My 24h misson

Experienced and documented by Chris~ Holm~ Skövde/Sweden

********************************
* THE STORY *
********************************

The mission starts at 21:39, outside the local ICA-market
(I had to enter and buy some water and bananas),
when I'm done shopping and step outside.

I reach the top at around 23:00 and walk around the hotel
(which is located on top of the mountain/hill.

At first I am really sweaty from wearing the backpack and
all
and I use my t-shirt/towel to remove the sweat from my
back.
But real soon I start to get cold and decide put my hood
back on
(my head), and use it like a hat.

(attached picture: The hotel, as seen from below [picture
taken, almost at the top].)

At around 23:30...

I begin eating some nachos.
They are really salty and they burn my lips.
After that I eat a couple of bananas.
It starts to get cold already, so I start to dance around
(listening to µ-ziq [on my mobile]) to get my heat up...
It works, temporary.

At around 00:30...

I decide to go and sit and watch the city lights
(you can see the whole center of the city from the
mountain).

It's scary walking in real darkness (no lights except
from the city lighting up the mountain from below) but the
music on my phone (I decide to play some Brian Eno,
if my Nokia had skipped to some gabber-track
[my mobile is old and skips tracks n stuff sometimes]
I would have gotten real scared) makes me feel ok.

After five minutes of walking I reach the place for the
night.
It's fucking cold (below freezing point).
And I just sit (on my t-shirt/towel), watching the quiet
city,
and shiver for two hours getting really cold...

At this moment I start to feel that starting the mission
tonight isn't such a good idea at all.
But even if I'd want to abort the mission I'd still have
about an hour of walking to do before I'd be home again.

Somewhere around 01:30 or so I am so fucking cold there is
no
longer a choice to not use my extra socks on top of my other
socks (to prevent me from having my toes frostbitten).

adjusted)

At around 02:30...

I decide to get up after having remained still and in
silence speaking to myself mentally and physically for more
than two hours.
I jump around in an attempt to get up my body temperature,
though without much success. I am really cold and I decide
to eat my last banana.

At around three it starts to get a little brighter, but it's
still another two hours before the sun sets.

But after I take a picture of some moose-crap (I think)...

[see attached pic]

... the battery of the digital camera dies... Which is
immedeatly
followed by THE setting of the sun...
So the picture I set out to take (of the sun setting over
Skövde) - I am unable to take it. The sun is real red and
nice though. Something to remember.

Minutes later I decide to head back into the more central
parts of Skövde, and on my way I discover a very beautiful
garden I didn't know existed. It's called "Karl Magnussons
Trädgård", and it looks really nice.
Reminds me of e.g. (the title screen of) Secret of Mana, but
I am still unable to take pictures.

At around 05:30...

When I have gotten into the the more central parts of
Skövde again I find a parkbench to sit on, not so far from
home, and I notice my skin has gotten really dry from
wearing that hood on my head, and I am still really cold and
really tired.
I feel like a homeless person, since I have no home... for
another 16 hours.
But the bench I am sitting on is shaded so I decide to find
another bench, where I can sit in the sun and get a bit
warmer (I am still very cold).

At around 06:00...

I find a bench where I decide to stay for the following four
hours. I think I look like a homeless dude to most people
who pass me by. Also I sit shivering with lots of clothes on
(even gloves) and people who live in the area pass me by
with less clothes, not being cold.
"Lucky bastards" I think.
Around this time I get my first phonecall... it's my mom who
calls me before going to work, to hear how things are going
along and to check if everything's ok.

At around 08:00...

I still occupy the bench (and will for the following two
hours). The battery has now been resting for some hours and
I am able to take a picture.

[see attached pic: it shows my view from the bench.]

I remain on that bench totally for another two hours sitting
/ lying, but I don't really get any sleep (eventhough I try
to).
All I do is listening to the radio / some music on my nokia
and eat two apples and drink some water.
The sky is clouded so I don't get as much touching from the
sun as I was hoping for (which later turns out to be a good
thing).

At around 10:00...

I have now been out for half the time, 12 hours, and I
decide to
finally leave the parkbench and start to walk around in the
area
to get my heat up (I am still feeling really cold, and have
been for more than 10 hours now).
I walk around for about an hour until a friend (Christopher)
call me up and tells me he will soon be going to school (and
that he'll bring the camera charger/a mobile charger I was
asking for so I can charge the technical stuff).
What a nice guy.
I'm therafter strolling for about an hour in another forest
nearby where I am able to take another picture (of a railway
near a forest):

At around 11:10...

I meet up with Christopher and is given the information that
it will take about 1 1/2 hour to recharge the battery of the
digital camera, so we decide to meet up at 12:30 at the same
place (outside school).

Now I have another 1 hour and 20 minutes to kill. (Next time
I do something similar to this mission, if there ever will
be another time, I will have more activites planned or do it
together with a friend so I can spend time doing "stuff").

I feel very tired right now and decide to walk to a sortof
industrial area not far from school to find a piece of grass
to lie and rest on.
Though I have to walk 15 minutes to find one, and it's
outside a
warehouse where lots of traffic drive by. I don't really
care and just lie in the grass trying to get some rest. Soon
it starts to rain, lightly, and I'm very tired of
everything.

At around 12:10...

I walk back to school to meet up with Christopher and at
around 12:30 we meet up and I get my technical equipment
back - recharged (yay!) Finally I can take pics again... and
listen to music on my mobile phone.
