So is he playing real drums live on that track? I recognize
his chops from Beep Street. I think the way he did the
bafflingly intricate drums on Beep Street was to play real
drums in real time, then slice it up and speed up the tempo
- or was that before beat slicing tools were common? Me do
not know.

automatic beat slicing maybe came later but manual beat
slicing has been going on since God said unto Noah "Yo
nigga, you best to built yourself a big fuckoff boat because
shit's about to get crazy wet up in this motherfucker."

Haha!

I think it is deffo live drums on iambic 9 and chopped beats
on beep street. I think he didn't even move on to computers
until go plastic anyway i remember reading that somewhere.

I find it hard to imagine someone doing the drums on Beep
Street without playing it live then slicing it to bits and
speeding it up, computers or not - it's too fast for just
playing and too live and complex and subtle for just
programming. Someone was saying that he cut up a James Brown
"Soul Pride" drumloop to make it, but I dunno - I've worked
with sliced loops and it's impossible to get that kind of
liveliness and variety out of only a few bars of material.

The motherfucker is deep, isn't he?

His gay lover told me he is at least 7" deep.

Why must you always reduce Tom Jenkinson to a sex object? He
must get tired of your leering and pinching.

To be honest i think he actually programmed it, is it that
hard to believe? Look at some of the amazing thing he and
many others can do with them.

I leer and pinch and he shoves...we make a good team. Just
a pity he doesn't know who I am. If he did I am sure we
would be best friends and I could stroke his beard.

MMmm, you may be right, perhaps I don't want to believe that
someone can program a drum track that swings so hard.

I will try and dig out an old iterview i read that was done
at the time of that album coming out and he said that he
programmed all the beats on a drum machine so i am guessing
that is what he did beep street on too.

That site is a great resource!

Shit, if that's the only source material for the drums, he
must have spent like a week or two programming the
variations.

Maybe once he had the hits sliced he mapped them to keys on
a midi keyboard and played it "live" at half or 1/3 speed...
I've seen people do amazing things with drum hits mapped to
keys - especially if they know drums.

I'm so fucking sick of clicking a mouse on a grid to make
drum tracks. It's slow and stiff and there has to be a
better way.

That's why he pushed Pomme. He assumed he was a sex crazed
stalker looking to take a picture of them together for his
own gratification.

Fleet: Yes, the drums are obscene...
