samples vs textures

do you prefer using vocular samples (like say, a sample of
Kennedy talking) or textures like synthesized waves or
environmental sound?

i prefer environmental sound personally, though i usually
place the textural emphasis in my music on my choice of
melodic instruments and drum patterns.

to me, it totally depends on the track i'm working on.

but, i find that using samples of speech in the traditional
sense is getting much less interesting these days. i really
like the way vsnares makes speech samples really fucked
up-sounding and contextualizes it in a piece. that adds a
whole different dimension to it - it's not just filler.

BoC got the vocal sample business down pretty tight imo. So
thats an example of it being done "Right".

I say both. I say anything at all. Just make the shit.

vocular is a cool word. I prefer which ever disconstructs
to the level and sound I want.

So sample vs. uh, what is the word for the other?
Synthesized sound?

textures are so important for electronic music... but i feel
like that applies to any component of the track... if you
are using vocal samples they should have the right
texture... ya dig?

If I was only allowed to use one, I'd go for synthesis, but
they both have their place.

i'm always using sampled sounds as far as the texturing
goes.
either it's an prerecorded nature or some pads that i sample
of records or whatever.
later on i twist them in my own way...

as far as the synths go...it's a very small percentage,i
besicly use synths to do melodies, just that.
everything other is sampled

I was hoping this was a debate on paint and tiling
