Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster.
Gotta give schneider some deserved props for this one. He's not often mentioned on xlt but this smiths cover is fantastic. Can be found on Rough Trade Electronic 01 compilation, which I would also give my stamp of approval to.
In fact here I go: *stamp*.

I have Zoomer (2002) and appreciate it greatly. Check Frogtoise, superbly barmy lyrics with melodic glitchery. Upbeat, with a fair dash of quirky pop sensibility. half the tracks have vocals (3 by Dirk himself which is rather unusual in electronica - refreshing change from guest vocalists).
The Light 3000 is the one you really need though. Collaboration with KPT.michi.gan, well worth tracking down (on Binokular EP).

Disclaimer: the stamp does not leave me liable for any dissatisfaction that may result from stamp-approved purchases.
I don't see how anyone could not like this song really, it's got instant appeal. But it's the subtle production touches that really make it.
Even if you don't go mad for it at first, you'll see the Light soon enough. Hawhaw.
I'll get my coat.

It should some with a warning:
Do not listen to this track if you are suffering from depression.
I found it on an CD one of my mates gave to me called Ibiza By Day.

True that. As a person of relatively sound mental health however, I'm a sucker for the bittersweet melancholy. That autumnal feeling... see also: all Autechre's best melodies.

It's electropop. Some songs are ok, and some are horrible. But that's maybe because I'm not a pop-fan

Indeed tis pop, albeit with an astounding depth to the mix, and the spluttering fizz and pop of that adorable little electro beat.
I consider it foolish to disregard things simply because they have popular appeal. Outkast's 'Hey Ya' has been enormously popular but is still a great song. In fact I consider it the best kind of pop, in that it's deceptively experimental: at it's heart is a 5 and a half bar loop. But it works on the head nodding, purely catchy level regardless.
Felt the same about Get Ur Freak On - 165bpm hip hop and nobody bats an eyelid. Awesome.

But then "There is a light that never goes out"... what could be more positive than that?
Morbidly romantic.

I agree, the music is really innocent and beautiful, which puts a different twist on the vocal.

Yeah this rocks. Introduced to it on John Peel a couple of years ago... forgot about it... then heard it at the Levi's store in New York!! Yeah, brought back memories.
