most of nevermind is about equally good to me. maybe I like
that one track "he likes our pretty songs and he likes to
sing along" etc less than the others since it's slightly
pretentious.

you mean "in bloom".

Cobain always said his lyrics had no meaning whatsoever, so
that would make it hard to be pretentious.

on the other hand, for example "scentless apprentice" is
about Patrick Süskind's book "Das Parfum/Perfume".. so.. it
would seem he used fragments to start him writing lyrics,
but I don't think they have one central theme.

even "all apologies", which would seem to be about wanting
to apologize for EVERYTHING, has plenty of lyrics that bear
no visible reference to that theme.

on a sidenote - "all apologies" also has one of the best
lines in any song ever: "aqua seafoam shame".

it means absolutely nothing (to me at least), but the way it
sounds when you say it, the rhythm..! :)

down to simple lists, all nuance gone.

the complete lyrics of "all apologies", to place the line in
context:

What else should I be
All apologies
What else could I say
Everyone is gay
What else could I write
I don't have the right
What else should I be
All apologies

In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
I'm married
buried

I wish I was like you
Easily amused
Find my nest of salt
Everything is my fault
I'll take all the blame
Aqua seafoam shame
Sunburn with freezerburn
Choking on the ashes of her enemy

In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
I'm married
buried
married
buried

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

All in all is all we all are [X19]
All in all is all we are

"In 1993, Cobain came to Fender with some cut-up
photographs of his two favorite guitars – stuck together.
And, in the end – what transpired was an amazing guitar
featuring a basswood body and a 24” short-scale maple neck
with a rosewood fingerboard."

doesn't say anything about the exact year the guitar went
into production, though.

so then he's referring to the colour.

well it's probably true that you don't gain as much insight
as you would if we all tried to elaborate on something about
the song that makes it the best... (or talk about aqua
seafoam shame)... and probably we should... but just by
listing your favourite song, i think a lot is said, simply
because a song has such a multiplicity of meanings to which
it can be attached, it is one (or two) word that stands for
much much more...

oh but I don't mind the lists of favourite songs - I also
like to see what everybody likes, because they do most
probably say something about the person in question.

I just don't like then trying to make one universal list,
with one 'most voted for' song coming out. to me that takes
away the whole charm.

#1 Nirvana song: THE SECRET SONG!

I believe the Jag-Stang is no longer being made, or they
just changed the name to something else... I had one, played
like shit, so I returned back it. It didn't even produce
good feedback (which was my original inspiration for buying
it).

Although it had that typical Nirvana-ratty sound when
combined with the orange Boss Distortion box.

I can't believe noone mentioned 'Negative Creep' yet, that
was the first Nirvana song I ever heard. Shortly afterwards,
very drunk i feel down some slippery concrete steps at the
party. This did not tarnish my happy musical memory.
