Anyone have any suggestions for a good, very high quality mp3 encoder? (I want to rip my cd collection and play with them in traktor)

use lame and eac to rip the discs. In eac just set it to use the lame.exe for external compression, and then put in a parameter to set quality.
I use "--alt-preset standard" which is vbr at 192~320 but there is --alt-preset insane which is 320 cbr (i.e. best mp3 quality in the history of time )

Well it is called "alt preset INSANE" so you do have to be completely insane to use it. Most people that use it tend to get thrown in the nuthouse straight away because it is so insanely insane.

Thanks horsefactory. You just saved me alot of time that I would have wasted trying 30 different half-assed shareware apps.

what he said. eac & lame. don't forget to run a speed test on your cd drive first so the software can suss out what the best speed is to rip your cds.

CDEX and LAME (Latext vers of CDEX, I think, has got a built in LAME encoder as well..) ..
Go for the --alt preset standard .. VBR & all that...
check out the BLEEP sites FAQ - they produce great MP3 using LAME using --alt preset standard ...
