I've recently started a new job. and although some of my collegues are ok, there is one girl who just talks about herself all the time. She seems to love herself and thinks she is holier-than-thou but the fact remains that she closely resembles a pig. So I was just wondering, do you have collegues you can't stand? They don't have to resemble farmyard animals. |

I have a lot of collegues that I can't stand.. All the girls at my job are hitting on guys at the weekends and I have to listen to that crap in the morning ;) Most of the time even my weekend was more fun. And they really think theyre so popular.. while the funny part is that everyone gossips about them :P |

The last job I was at (and will probably go back to soon) I got on well with absolutely everyone in my office. The only people I disliked were: The salesmen (although, it's hard to ever like salesmen, right?), who were fortunately off site most of the time and also the helpdesk who were at another site so I only had to deal with them down the phone. They were basically junior phone monkeys who couldn't do their jobs properly and used to just bounce work (that was nothing to do with us) our way to get their queue down (they were hired and fired on stats). After growing tired of their games, we adopted a policy of deleting any calls they put in our queue without giving our express permission for and then we would disavow all knowledge of them. Of course, they would then get in trouble for it. They soon learnt to ring first :) We also used to have an open door policy in the company, but we found: a) People would wander in and talk to us about nothing. b) The women in the room opposite would cackle like witches all day and it did our heads in. So, we used to close the door and put a "meeting in progress" sign up and just quietly get on with our work. If we were busy, we'd take our phones off the hook too, whenever it was anything really important the receptionist would come up to tell us face to face. They tolerated our insubordination as we made the most money for smallest outlay (only the salesmen came close) and due to the nature of the job, we were not easily replaceable. Oscillik: Yeah, I had one or two like that, but headphones solve that problem :) Fortunately a couple of them liked "proper" music, a couple of drum and bass heads, one was into dub and electro, another liked lemonjelly and stuff like that. One of them was even a music maker and we used to exchange tips and stuff when he called in. |

My workmates are great. They all have varied and great senses of humour. We all get on great together. If you work with good people who you get on with, I think it helps no matter what job you are doing. |

Ever since I've had my job, I've just been amazed by how many childish people are out there. There are all these tiny insignificant arguments going on all the time. And worst of all, they are all brought up during the weekly meetings :-s Stupid stuff like: "I'm not gonna help her with her work when I'm done with mine. I just work faster, why should I be punished for being faster by having to help the slower people?" There are always at least 4 or 5 people who won't speak to each other because they've irritated one another in some way. Nobody wants to work even a minute longer than absolutely necessary etc etc. I just try to ignore them as much as possible. Thankfully there are also loads of other people who just want to do their work and have a positive attitude instead of complaining about stuff all the time. All in all it's not such a bad job, but on some days having to listen to all those negative people can be really exhausting. |

Im a mailman and im like 3 times faster then the rest and my areas i deliver to is bigger then the rests and still i have do help the other knuckle heads sort their mail n shit . It DOES get a bit irritating (and exhausting) after a while. And when some of them brag about how fast they are or when they go home earlyer then me i feel like punching them . Some of my workmates are really great tho , fun to party with. One of them even has good music taste and we are going to se "Mum" live later this summer. |

I guess it makes the grumpy and demotivated or something. But like with you, most (or atleast alot) of my co-workers are really cool people whom I get along with just fine. |

hey big! :-) Nice to see you. Get rid of the spongebob-avatar did you? Nickelodeon has been broadcasting lots of new episodes recently. It's great! There was one where Gary had to take a bath. But ofcourse he didn't want to. So spongebob tries all kinds of crazy stuff to get him in the bath. And at some point he grabs a dollar-bill and says: "I've got a dollar here waiting for the first person to take a bath in this house!" And immediately Mr. Crabs comes roling in in a bath on wheels, grabs the dollar and says: "thanks very much". Hahaha. It was so great. I couldn't stop laughing for atleast 15 minutes :-p But uhm yeah. Postmen are getting less and less freedom. Even in the 2 short years I've been working here I've seen our schedule getting tighter and tighter. And it's only gonna get worse. But still I like my job. I work alot in the evening too. Not out on the street, but in a seperate room where I have to register and sort and pack the special mail (registered letters and stuff like that). It's like I have my own office ;-) Biggest dissapointment for me has always been that we aren't allowed to use walkmans. Not even out on the street. We have to be "approachable" for people. Haha. Shame... it would make for a great opportunity to listen to lots of great music hours a day. |

The thing that is irritating tho is that because im such a competative person it makes me cry inside everytime annyone is "Wrongfully" done before me. I will show them this summer tho * evil laugh * When there is small amounts of mail we don't have to help annyone and there will be alot of those days in the summertime. I started at this new office in the winter so no one here has really seen my full potential hehe! I will be hitting the showers when some of them will hit the bike haha! |

You'll make lots of hours and money today!" "Hardly any mail today. Great huh? You'll be home before you know it!" "Hm there have been alot of complaints in our part of the city lately. I think this is a great opportunity to show how much better we can do!" "Hey erik, I've got another little job for you today. Nice huh? You don't have to go out on the street today." "Oh hey erik, I've had someone call in sick today. Could you maybe deliver an extra route? It'll be great! Lots of fresh air, you won't have to be staying indoors all the time today!" They often make the same jokes too, hehe. You can definitely tell the difference between when they're really talking to you, or when then they're just saying what they've been taught to say. "I will be hitting the showers when some of them will hit the bike haha!" LOL! lucky bastard! We also have alot less mail in the summer. But they just make us work extra. Bigger routes etc. So we're hardly home any earlier than in winter. Damnit :-p |

Yeah we also get a bit extra work in the summer but its nothing compared to the winter anyways so its all good. Summertime is record time , time to beat the records on your route. I thought of buying a stop watch but my work mates would think ive gone crazy hehe! I bought a head lamp in the winter (it gets very dark here during winter) and everybody laughed at first but now they all say they will follow my example next winter. You look like an idiot but it knocks off an half hour of your route. |

My normal co-workers were generally good people, though they gossiped quite a bit. Our ''2nd tier'' so to speak had some major twats, though. I had a cool supervisor, but there were a lot of dickhead bosses, too. It was like Office Space. There seemed to be as many supervisors as regular workers. |

Usually they open the outside door from upstairs and through the intercom they say: come on up! And I don't want to get into a discussion everytime telling them to come down ;-) |

Holy shit! You talk to people on your route ??? =) When i said "door to door" i meant slam dunking in these throw in thingies (don't know the english word) at the door. I have to explain tho that i work at a private owned mail company (City Mail) and not the actual State Post. Our work rutines is based on speed , we don't have any personal mail , just company mail , papers ,bills ,bank stuff ,catalouges and alot of comercial. On a citymail route there is usualy 3 normal postmen , still we run past them all. But i don't blame them , when they are done they have more work at the office , i wouldn't run either , i would buy an ice cream and soak up some sun =) We write numbers on every piece of mail like 1:4 = Floor 1 Door 4 ..etc. so when delivering we dont look at all the names we just look at the numbers and its super fast. we're not supposed to leave our bike (and all the mail in it) unguarded. Shit! i have a hard time picturing your kind of way of delivering ? Sometimes i leave my bike and take 7 buildings in a row cause its faster that way. Do you deliver to regular houses aswell ? (not apartments) The way we (not all) do it is slam dunking from the bike , its quite enjoyable actually. Not as fun going uphill with a full bike but what the hell. Impossible tho during winter. It sounds pretty cool... and fast! And indeed I work for the (formerly) state-owned mail-company of the netherlands. But our monopoly is slowly being reduced. In a couple of years time the netherlands will probably have 2 or 3 or 4 different mail-companies. Probably also some like your company who concentrate on commercial mail. But in reality that's really not an option. A normal route would take me 5 times longer if I actually kept an eye on the bike all the time :-p So I too walk around with huge packages of mail and do several streets at a time. Actually it's quite fun to see how many streets you can carry all at a time :-p Because I'm quite a large person (almost 2 metres) I've become known to carry huge packages of a mail at a time. Hehe. Whenever I help prepair the mail for someone else's route I constantly have to remind myself not everyone has such long arms and I needed to make smaller stacks of mail ;-) "Do you deliver to regular houses aswell ? (not apartments)" Yeah we deliver everywhere. Appartments, regular houses, shops, office-buildings... whatnot. I dislike the streets with somewhat more expensive houses. They tend to have enormous gardens you have to walk through to get to the door (and sometimes even also some steps leading up through the door). It's such a pain. If all those houses would have a seperate mailbox infront of their gardens (right next to the road). We could deliver SO much more mail in the same time as it takes me to do an entire street now. |

What also gets on my nerves is when I'm delivering in one of those apparment-buildings with lots of mailboxes at the entrance. And someone who lives there will come down for the mail. So I ask: "at what number do you live?" So that I can see if they have any mail. And they'll say: "No that's okay, I'll just wait for it."
