Right so i signed up to a "free" site and although i can view matches etc, i gotta pay cash to contact them and i tried embedding my email address in my profile but the fuckers are wise to all the tricks! I don't have a credit card at the moment so they said to send cash to some dodgy countryside address - fuck that!
Anyway, i signed up cos you just can't meet a decent single chick in this town who isn't pissed off her tits or a right dog. At least this way, you know what the deal is up front. I know most of these online women will be bloody awfull but i figure it'd be worth the "sad" factor to hook up with one who's half-way decent. I already got messaged by a looker but can't reply as i aint a full member yet. I'll give it a week of finding matches to see how worth it this whole crazy Springtime-fuelled scheme is!
Whatcha think?

I'd like a real world system of "filtering" all the ones I'd not bother with. I can't afford the time/money to sift through them to find Ms. Right. I'm not opposed to the idea of a dating agency on principle, but I wouldn't pay money for the privelidge (I can waste money on women myself, I don't need to pay a company to do that) It'd be quite cool if the dating agency/whatever extensively researched the people before including them on the roster (checked the picture was them and recent, checked out their qualifications, marital status, criminal record, whether they were bankrupt etc., and also levvyed fines/banned them if they were found to be lying about things).

good points there....
i think its only sad if you think its sad- i'm not a studmuffin lad-about-town who can go out and chat up strangers all the time at all...... i want to meet a woman but i hate the pressure of pubs/clubs chatup crap.
Other alternatives -
*friends of friends/aquantences - there's been chances, fleeting encounters etc but nothing substantial
* work - there's nobody of interest here - i've had a few work flings in the past but right now, not a chance
* social clubs/gym etc - i'm in a few clubs but they're mostly male and i ain't met a woman i'm into who's a member. (!)
.... I've met previous g/f's while out and about but they always chatted me up..... i just can't do it - it feels so fake. This way its straight up front no nonsense.
not too bothered about 15 quid a month either

*friends of friends/aquantences - there's been chances, fleeting encounters etc but nothing substantial
Yeah, that's the best bet, but like you say, it tends to be fleeting. It also feels a bit false ingratiating yourself with people when your real motivation is to become part of their circle of friends, purely to meet someone.
* work - there's nobody of interest here - i've had a few
work flings in the past but right now, not a chance
Tend not to be many nice women in IT. Also, if it goes awry it can make for a tense atmosphere at work. Similarly, if your company policy is strict and they find out, they may move one of you to another department/site.
* social clubs/gym etc - i'm in a few clubs but they're mostly male and i ain't met a woman i'm into who's a member.
Same problem. Also, whilst I have no problem talking to women in bars/whatever, it'd feel odd chatting someone up at the gym/swimming pool.
I've met previous g/f's while out and about but they always
chatted me up
Yeah, it also feels a bit like laziness when you just cave in to some girl when you're out rather than taking the initiative/striving for someone a bit better.
I'll probably actively look for a girlfriend in a few months once I'm back in work and moved in somewhere. That said, it's not hugely important to me. I tolerate (and even enjoy) solitude and even if they pay their fair share, dating eats a lot of your disposable income (eating out, weekends away, going to cocktail bars rather than sawdust on the floor, £1 a pint places) and time (going shopping, going to see films you're not fussed about etc.)

dating is the most forced practiced ever. You have to sell youself like a cheap neon sign.
I would much rather meet a fine filly, introduce my name, and copulate.
society has it all wrong.

OHH JEEZ MY FAVORITE SUBJECT.
I tried it for almost a year with someone on this board- dum dum dummm, ya'll know who it was. And even then with everything we had in common it didnt work out.
I think you need patience, maybe there are things in your life you need to accomplish without the nagging of a woman, just look at it for what it is.
I'm thankful I feel in love with this person and I don regret anything but things are the way they are because they're meant to be that way. Dont rush anything and dont think youre gonna find love over the internet my big question was WHY WOULD LIFE/GOD WHATEVER PUT SOMEONE YOU LOVE MILES AWAY FROM YOU. Dont rush it dude :D

Free parties, raves, decent clubs, where everyone is on ecstacy (I don't mean always to talk about drugs here, I'm really not a big drug user myself these days - very cautious on the whole), but meeting women at those places just happens so easily!
And add to that the fact that most guys there aren't even interested in pulling - More interested in the music or skinning up.
But those kinds of parties, where all the girls are totally uninhibbited, and you can just talk to anyone, everyone's in a great mood - You can ALWAYS find a nice girl if you want one.
And I find that, although often chemically assisted, MUCH more natural, and much less wierd and intimidating than all that chatting people up business.
Trying to sell yourself!? What's that all about!? You should never have to go to those lengths - You should be able to find someone who likes you for who you are easily enough - But not in bars, mainstream clubs, offices, pubs, etc... just find lonely desparate people with social issues.

Yep, even when they're not on drugs, the people you meet at those sort of things tend to be a lot better natured than most. Good night clubs with places to talk are a great place to meet girls, but I never go somewhere with just that in mind anymore.
Numb: "Dont rush anything and dont think youre gonna find love over the internet my big question was WHY WOULD LIFE/GOD WHATEVER PUT SOMEONE YOU LOVE MILES AWAY FROM YOU."
Because God is not without a sense of humour. :D The real issue is that it's only because we have a tool (the internet) for meeting people on the other side of the world that it's a common problem. It happens anyway though (meeting people when they and/or you are on holiday). Not a lot you can do about it.
