he opened for squarepusher last night. so horrendously bad.
the pitchfork review quotes him explaining his own music:
"Basically we record famous people and make it sound like
they're talking about sex or drugs. It's a winning
formula."

i had a bad feeling when two guys in jumpsuits and masks
(one bush, the other blair) come on stage -- they dance
around, humping and patting each other and giving
faux-blowjobs, with bits and pieces from their speeches
rearranged to make it sound like they've gone
crazy/horny/etc. later they cut up a harry potter audiobook
and make it sound like he's getting a blowjob from his
schoolmates.

bad, bad, bad

I think it's pretty funny. Some really base part of me gets
off on Jamie Oliver calling himself a tosser.

i saw them too.
i thought they were funny for about 15 minutes. then their
schlock got kinda old.

the Human Orchestra was fucking amazing though. best
beatboxing ive ever heard.

and of course, Squarepusher rocked my sorry ass.

but even though its silly juvenile tom-foolery, it is still
pretty impressive from a technical standpoint.

The Parker Tapes album was good.

I don't know about a live show though. I think that could
get tiresome VERY quickly.

It sounds like it did.

I loved "the parker tapes".

it's not just funny, it works on a musical level too, with
all the shortcuts and overflows. grrrreat!

i saw them when i saw squarepusher in toronto........ i
agree, they really really suck
really lame, not funny, not musical, not technically
impressive, not anything but trash
having to listen to/watch them for half an hour was a
terrible start to the concert

the human orchestra was pretty good

and obviously... squarepusher was awsome

you mean the bit where the gwb guy crammed the tall end of
his gigantic inflatable hammer into the mouth of the blair
guy's mouth and humped forcefully as the blair guy gagged
and reeled, with cut-up narration of harry potter receiving
a blowjob from his underaged schoolmate?

(and no, i'm not making any of this up)

yeah i really don't want to see these guys play when i go
see squarepusher. i've heard a couple clips and it didn't
really interest me. i doubt the comedic part is funny at all
and even if it did turn out that i liked their work i
wouldn't want to see them live.

incredible memory of it

i can imagine cassetteboy not being so great live, but his
parker tapes album is just fukin brilliant ("well i know i'm
on the drugs agaaaain....now the drugs work, they don't make
you worse, and i know i'll see the drugs again, yeh i know
i'll see the drugs again..."). his other album 'festive
christmas' ain't so great, it repeats a lot of stuff, i
mean, there's only so mant xmas songs to fuck with. however
his version of cliff richards 'mistletoe and wine' is a
highlight ("with christians on the fire and christians on
the fire, a time to rejoice in the hatred we see...")
