Well, after many years of having a crap PC with 48MB of
RAM, a 28.8k modem, and a crap CPU, at the end of the month
I should be getting a new computer ... I'm ordering the
parts from Overclockers and getting my brother's friends to
assemble... I'll list the components (which Horsefactory
kindly helped me with) ... if I'm missing anything you can
think of, please tell me so I don't have to order more parst
and wait longer than is strictly necessary! thank-you :)

LIST

· Abit NF7 nForce2 (Socket A) Motherboard

· AMD Athlon "Barton" XP2500+ 333FSB (Socket A) CPU-OEM

· Coolermaster Aero 7 Lite (Socket A)

· Crucial 512MB DDR RAM

· Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600SE 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (Graphics
Card)

· Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 120GB 8MB Cache HD

· Asus CRW-5232AS 52X CD-ReWriter

· CoolerMaster Centurion - Silver (Case)

· Q-Tec 400W Dual Fan Gold PSU

· Hyundai ImageQuest Q77OS 17" Flatscreen Monitor

Hmm, I seem to be without a sOund cArd! :D how weird...

I've had nothing but good experiences with my M-audio
Audiophile 24/96 sound card - though these days you might
look at one of their outboard USB models.

Get a full gig of ram if you plan to use large sample sets
and lots of VSTs/ VSTis.

Looks alright to me. Except for the soundcard......

I expect that, once it's all settled in, I'll add another
512 of RAM :] I am so excited about being able to do
multiple dynamic effects and hearing the music develop as a
whole ... right now, I have to do the music a bit at a time,
then export stuff as WAV, and sequence it together, hoping
that my intuition paid off ... really laborious and open to
laziness :$ Hopefully, there will be a marked improvement in
my musical structure and production! If not, I have no
excuses left! :D

I vauguely remember there being a reason for no separate
soundcard, but I simply cannot remember -- maybe
Horsefactory will see this thread and remember :D

That probably explains it, Chris! :D Thanks! Haha - I'll
have to recheck the specs and all, to see if the built-in
soundcard is adequate - it must be, because Sam told me so
:D

Saul - I'm not funding all of the pC _ I'm splitting the
cost with my girlfriend ... she's about to get a bit of
money through, and I'm saving up for two weeks, so hopefully
all will be well!

I would trust Sam :)

I believe it's 5.1 decoding on a lot of them. Don't know if
that counts for anything for you :D

I have no idea what 5.1 decoding is :D

Saul - I may get a tape recorder and some tapes ... this
week I will be recording myself Radio Tuning Jamming (RTJ)
!!

You've given me the impetus to compile the specs for my new
computer :D

I bought the case the other day but I hadn't got round to
acutally doing the specs of the components.

The motherboard has an onboard soundcard and because you
were going for budget I decided that you'd be alright
without one, you can always order one later on if you want.
