yeah sorry. this was posted a while back but i couldnt find
it.

anyway, here's the situation:

winxp + ie5. never had much problems but now:

-craploads of popups with pretty much new window that opens
-homepage gets set to some fucked up search engine site i
dont want. i can set it back to google but it wont make a
difference cause next time it'll be there again.
-when i do a google search, a new window opens with a
different search site. there is no info there on how to get
rid of it.

i used ad-aware and mcaffee, removed everything that was
detected, rebooted, and the same shit happens again.

i just dont know anymore.

Give spybot a chance. I have heard decent things
about it.

such a good firewall. I've been using it a while now and
it's marvellous.

yeah indeed, sometimes it is a bit too good
if I place an order at Skam I have to turn it off, otherwise
I can't order ;)

That's strange. I can still order from SKAM at home with it
on. I'm using Firefox browser so I don't know if that's
something to do with it.

I also tried Firefox when I had that problem, and I got the
same error again. when I turned off my firewall the problem
was gone, somehow my firewall blocked it

Have you updated to the latest AdAware ?

Do you visit the same porn sites frequently ?

Do you use Kazaa and other infested crap ?

try ad-aware (search download.com or any search-engine)

also: have a lok around Doxdesk (maybe under
"parasites"?)

thanks for all the help. i have kerio but it has expired.
does anybody have a keygen or any kind of crack for it?

good idea to update ad-aware too.

It may say expired but that just means you have the free
version now. There's no need to crack it.

popups can occur on Windows 2000 and Windows XP that are
BUGGER ALL to do with IE

there's something called the RPC control (something to do
with Remote Controlling as far as I can tell) and ISP's can
send popups through this as far as i know

the best thing to do is to

1) use another browser....any of the alternatives mentioned
would be ideal

2) get a decent firewall that includes RPC blocking

or if you're that pissed off with them all, go out
and spend £500 on a decent second hand Mac

;)

you don't EVER get popup's with a Mac
