one of the strangest and most original movies I have ever seen, the sort of craziness that ONLY comes from japan, the basic storyline is this, in the future, due to overpopulation and continually more and more agressive youths, the adults decided to pass a law called battle royale, what it means is that they grab a random school class, stick collars around their neck that explode if they don't do what they say, stick them on an island, and tell them to kill each other until only one person is left, otherwise they all die, they are given a random weapon via bags (but not everyone gets a "weapon" some people get torch's, binoculars, etc...) but needless to say, this movie has some of the most interesting scenes I've seen in any movie, the craziness of hte plot leads forth all kinds of moral dillema's and crazy characters and things, the movie is somewhat "arty" but it's one of those nicely shaped movies where you really don't know what's going to happen next / who's going to survive, but it all rounds out in the end, one of the most awe inspiring things you'll ever see also, I've seen battle royale 2, and it sucked, but battle royale 1 should be a part of anyones collection |

Haven't seen #2. #1 was a good laugh though. Watched it while spooning out on white widow and it totally screwed me up. Laughing one minute, cowering the next. I'd be interested to see it when I'm not fucked. Good idea though (for a ridiculous movie, I mean). |

Awesome movie, lots of fun. I love the drawn out deaths and rampant melodrama. The whole concept of the film is just plain cute and adorable. |

i love the movie. i'm reading the book now, but the translation is really awkward. kinda spoils the book. and yeah i saw the sequel and it was so bad i almost turned it off but sat through it just because.. hmm.. well not because it was worth watching. anyway, it's awful. if you run a search, there have been topics about Battle Royale in the recent past, if you are interested in reading further discussion... |

Ive seen this move so many times, very awsome! there is battle royal 2 as well you know... its pretty strange on its own... it takes places (obviously) after the 1st movie... quite good. ichi the killer was sweet too. |

wasn't the biggest fan of the second, one. it's really hard to compare anything to the first one though.... I love all the classical all through it :) |

The first one is awesome. I rarely see sequels to these type of films on the basis that they're normally not a patch on the first. I love the first one though. Still need to get it on DVD :) |

yeah it really is bad, it's a shame that it took a turn the way it did, could have made a master sequel if they just kept to the original theme |
