I thought 3 and 7 were supposed to be significant numbers, in that they recur in most cultures, being used in myths etc.

Well, Alex, all numbers are special =) Some appear to be more special by the golden threads they are entwined within, linking them other names... eg, 23 links to 1,5,6, and 32, all of which are numbers important in the Judæo-Christian System! :D

What is really interesting is the number one - all other numbers are multiples of it, even fractions.

"The series was produced with the intention of being aired in varied forms internationally. The human "wraparound" segments were shot separately for each nation, so that the child viewer could always relate to the world of the program. The wraparounds featuring "Doc" in the US are replaced in the UK by the character called "The Captain" who lives in a lighthouse, and the same segments in France take place in a bakery. The series has appeared now in over ten countries and languages."
I never knew that. tss.

9:13, Personal note: When I was a little kid my mother told me not to stare into the sun. So once when I was six, I did. The doctors didn't know if my eyes would ever heal. I was terrified, alone in that darkness. Slowly daylight crept in through the bandages, and I could see, but something else had changed inside of me. That day I had my first headache.

haha nice wikipedia turns out to be 'urban dictionary' of online encyclopedias
i was bored so i did about ten minutes research on some points of the mysterious 23 enigma list, since it seemed like utter nonsense to me, and guess what;
The human biorhythm is generally 23 days long
only physically it's 23 days, intellectually it's 33 days, emotionally it's 28 days.
It takes 23 seconds for blood to circulate throughout the entire body
Different sources give figures from 20 up to 60 seconds for blood to circulate throughout the entire body. 23 seems like a randomly picked number out of this range.
December 23, 2012 is the date the Mayans believed would mark an apocalyptic event
There are more sources that speak about the 21st of december 2012 rather than the 23rd
The Egyptian and Sumerian New Year's were on July 23rd
well just do a google search and it'll turn out otherwise :)
imo every person with common sense can understand that you could make an enigma for every number if you do about an hour of research on a certain number,
try 4, or 60 or any other. I found it quite funny to read 'Adherents of the 23 Enigma will look out for the number in films, random occurrences, as well as in the natural world'. Oh, I think a saw a movie the other day in which some guy was 23 years old. Wow.
Of course you'll come across a certain number oftentimes if you look out for it, duh.
ps funny to see some beatles trivia in the list, i must confess that makes the whole 23 enigma thing more plausible
---
all in all a great addition to the wikipedia database have a nice day
