I don't mind merzbow being listened to on someone elses
headphone on someone elses head 3 miles away from where I
am. The same goes for VSnores too.

Whitehouse delivers a totalitarian form of sonic sickness
too. They are a noise group.

I liked Birdseed by whitehouse.

This genre is quite interesting. I like to look at it as a
science. Or perhaps something to study while i am listening
to it

I listen to noise as sound not composition. I used the word
totalitarian to describe the feeling in which you are forced
by sound to go in a specific state of mind, I am unable to
describe due to language restrictions.

i have 6 Merzbow albums... (soon 7 probably! : ))

but i haven't heard any other noise band yet - well, i have
heard some stuff of Whitehouse but it didn't catch my
attention that much, one was like vsnares-stuff (if i
remember, i may be confusing though) and one was a recording
of a baby playing in a bath tub...

Wolf Eyes and Black Dice are awesome... you should check out
everything they put out... i'm really loving noise these
days... i was one of the 2 (or was it 3?) people who put it
as their electronic genre of preference in the xlt poll from
a few weeks ago... not because i love it more than anything
else... but because, right now, i definitely listen to it
more than anything else...
check Kevin Drumm
Oren Ambarchi
Mika Vainio
Hecker
stuff from Erstwhile records
stuff from Charizma records (both these labels are part of
the electronic improv scene... but i'd say that a lot of it
bears an affinity with noise...)

noise?

No, Hecker as in Florian Hecker... and if you listen to it
on headphones... well i hope you can still hear
afterwords... sheer sonic terror

I saw Merzbow at ATP 2002 and it was pretty fucking intense.
Especially since I had only heard his name up until then.
Everyone in audience covering ears as he just sat there
chewing gum. At one point he had to signal one of the
stage-people to turn it down. That's when I realized, "Fuck,
this guy really could kill me with this stuff." In other
words, it was a blast!

i likes noise alright. The first time i experienced it was
RDJ @ Sonar 2001 - you know the gabba/whitehouse/Speedranch
part...... i just found its so exhilerating and
mind-capturing, if ya know what i mean..

.. since then i heard satansoranade, saw whitehouse live
(fucking incredible....), saw Russel Hassel @ ATP03, and
generally love the stuff, mostly in a live setting. VSnares
at ATP was bloody noisey too and just fantastic. I guess im
saving Merzbow for a rainy day.

wow.

i just listened to two sound samples (2 minute long each),
from 'Slicer' by Wolf Eyes... sounds pretty great indeed.

i think i'll try to get it! (it's not available at amazon
.fr nor .de, but apparently it is at .co.uk, in import....)

Question: When does random sounds that can cause permanent
ear damage = good music?

Answer: When you are an elite IDM type listener.

If I went to a live event or whatever and I had to stand
there with my hands over my ears while some prick played
noise it would be a pretty shit event.

"Question: When does random sounds that can cause
permanent ear damage = good music?"

Answer: the specific wolf eyes release I was referring to
wasn't like that. It was more ambient noise stuff, organic
kinda like Leafcutter John.

i like some watered down noise. and then some of just cracks
me up, not in an insulting 'this is shit way' though. like
the first track on the flying testicle album (masonna +
merzbow) when masonna starts screaming. i lose it.
