I've been thinking of getting one of these for
using as a "sketchbook" when making music, and I think I'd
like your opinions as musicians first.

yeah.. I like the idea of being able to make music on the
bus home from work instead of watching those sad, grey
people sit around in their suits and with their briefcases.
they all seem like they want to die...

also, being able to record anywhere is appealing... the only
bad thing about this is that it will be a sketchbook.. no
more.. I think it compresses into mp3 or something...

(the drum machine is supposedly good, though...)

hm

still, i wonder how much quality is lost
i mean, if you can convert it to 320kb, then its all good,
no really big problems

well.. I don't really know WHAT it compresses to, but I
think it runs on a flash-memory-card, so it can have up to
521 (or whatever that thing is) mb.

up to 128.

yeah.. maybe... the thing is: this thing got good reviews
for.. just about every feature on it... but the last heading
in the review read: "Compression: sacrelage?" (or however
that may be spelled...)

it basically discussed the compression issue back and forth,
and came to the conclusion that it was a matter of taste...

damn! well.. since drums and bass can be programmed on
built-in sounds, I guess it could work.. we have a electric
bass which we can record later on anyway...

I read you can export as wav to your comp, but you need all
kind of SmartMedia crap.

well.. I'm going to a music-store to check it out today, and
that will definately be a question. thanks for reminding
me...

seriously - I'd only do it if you are capable to export
wavs.

even 320k mp3s are still mp3s.

..and... I'm thinking of eventually getting this
as well... it has just dropped in price, and it also got
good reviews (in comparison to a boss, which landed at the
bottom, and a tascam which won for best audio-quality. but
this one doesn't compress into anything...)

yeah, it says on the page that I'll need a smartcard
reader... now it all depends on how much one of those cost.
