I was simly illustrating the initial question, which was "what is 'taking the piss'"? I took the piss. The piss was taken. I now have the piss. |

Anyway, my grandfather on my mother's side was Irish and my Dad's greatgrandfather was Irish but i still don't feel compelled to go round saying I am Anglo Irish. |

I think "taking the piss", translated to American, would be "are you fucking kidding me?" |

For example, phoning into work and saying you're ill when you are really not, to your workmates would be taking the piss, or a 'piss-take' because they have to work, and you are getting away with it. It can also be used in the context of.... Friend 1 "I went to Friend 2 "Come on now, you are taking the piss!" Friend 2 "No...for real!" ....in other words, used as a statement of disbelief (again bending the truth) |
