way to go; stereotyping. Classy.

Oh pleeeeez- like stereo types have no basis in fact. The
only reason there is any humor in stereotyping is because it
strikes a chord with the collective consciousness- dont be
such a tight ass- you might as well be an Englishman.

Just didn't want to turn this place into another 70post

Ok in the instance I just illustrated- is it ok to be
racist?

I mean I'm an Irish American so I have to hate the English,
right?

so, um, yeah, what does it mean?

it means you should eat another twinkie and shut up.

I love Americans that say they're Irish American. If I used
their same far reaching genealogy I'd go round saying I was
British Viking.

you are wonderfully patronizing yet I merely mention my
ancestroy because my people have only been here a couple
hundred years of years

your ancestors were undoubtedly licking mine's boots

I was simly illustrating the initial question, which was
"what is 'taking the piss'"? I took the piss. The piss was
taken. I now have the piss.

Anyway, my grandfather on my mother's side was Irish and my
Dad's greatgrandfather was Irish but i still don't feel
compelled to go round saying I am Anglo Irish.

I think "taking the piss", translated to American, would be

"are you fucking kidding me?"

offline Jedi Chris on 2004-03-28 01:00 [#01122319]

To 'take the piss', is to take advantage of a situation,
with the hope that no one else finds out, for your own
personal gain. For example, phoning into work and saying
you're ill when you are really not, to your workmates would
be taking the piss, or a 'piss-take' because they have to
work, and you are getting away with it.

It can also be used in the context of....
Friend 1 "I went to !"
Friend 2 "Come on now, you are taking the piss!"
Friend 2 "No...for real!"
....in other words, used as a statement of disbelief (again
bending the truth)

For example, me suggesting that Horsefactory's avatar
suffers from Epilepsy, would be "taking the piss".

What about giving the piss a bus pass? Or moving the piss
from one end of the room to the other?

So, someone who takes the piss and gets away with it on a
regular basis would be a darkhorse?

I have never understood the meaning of "cop out" as in "that

I think americans say it the most.
