The past few days there has been a surge of bumping old
threads, usually nonsense ones. I don't mind people bumping
the old odd thread, even if it is a nonsense one. However,
when there are lots of them at once, it does disrupt the
board. I've not mentioned it before as I was hoping it would
die down after a day or two, but it has persisted.

If it continues, I'll start closing the topics and warning
individuals concerned. If that doesn't stop them, they'll
get bans.

where you can filtrate music-only-topics and so on. Do you
know anything abouty that?

But this is a messageboard made for Electronic Music, isn't
it? And the amount of "funny topics" lately makes me
hesitant to visit a website, which have given me a lot when
it comes to music. That's bad, mmmkay?

yeeye. but still.. it can't be ALL about music (then it
would die pretty fast). there has to be fun in between the
music and the discussions about music and artists (as Ceri
said: "I don't mind people bumping
the old odd thread, even if it is a nonsense one.")

but still.. It floats pretty nicely the way it works today.
Threads that people don't appreciate quickly deteriorate and
reverts to molecules in the vast ocean that is: Xltronic MB.

offline horsefactory from 💠 (United Kingdom) on 2004-03-29 05:08 [#01123533]

The nonsense threads don't bother me at all. I know that I
am to blame for quite a few of them, but if you don't want
them it really isn't hard to ignore them. I don't feel that
they are as disruptive as people are making out; it's good
to have something to break up the more serious discussions
you know. This place would lose a lot of character if we
only had serious threads.

Believe me. A XLTmb with music-only threads, would be my
dream. I think it would have survived, and I think the
people in it for the music would be here more. Maybe the
solution would be to create a chat-box for people who want
to discuss their psychologist, anal sex (*kremt*), or
whatever. Still waiting for those filters, though. :)

offline mortsto-x from Trondheim/Bodø (Norway) on 2004-03-29 05:10 [#01123536]
Points: 8062 Status: Lurker | Followup to horsefactory: #01123533

I have suggested that Xltmb could be divided into "music
only" and a "everyting else." But the people didn't seem to
like the idea.

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2004-03-29 05:11 [#01123537]
Points: 35867 Status: Lurker | Followup to mortsto-x: #01123535 | Show recordbag

haha!

well.. a chat box would kind of kill the magic, I think...
and the thing is: music-releases by known artists who are
interesting to the people on this MB are far between, so
release-discussions would be just as scarce.

let's just keep the flow as it is, is what I say.

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2004-03-29 05:12 [#01123538]
Points: 35867 Status: Lurker | Followup to mortsto-x: #01123536 | Show recordbag

dividing won't be a good idea, no.. that would mean too much
clicking back and forth to get everything... the filters.. I
think Phob said: "no more temp. fixes," so they won't be
here until the next version of XLT.

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2004-03-29 05:36 [#01123546]
Points: 35867 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

and also.. I think XLT is more a community than a
music-mb... people discuss what they want to discuss (with
an angling towards electronic music), and madness sometimes
reign supreme (but that is only because the human mind is
mad in its essence).

I think that general discussion with people who like some of
the things I like (I don't know anyone in real-life that
likes Aphex.. they all like rock and shit (although I'm
converting them to Hip-Hop. They are already into Jazz,
which is good...))

I think the problem is that people create NEW topics every
godamn seconds when we could have like a few really big
ones.
For example Jedi Chris RECYCLE Raimons and myself are into
starwars but people wouldn't wan't to see a new starwars
thread (on a electronic music mb) every time theres some
new info etc so we try to keep it in the bigass ""Episode
will be great!!" topics .
However people who are not as much into starwars or in fact
hate it start a new thread every week.

Anyways more people could follow this i think.
Woofer ,nacmat and tolstoyed keept their worldcup football
disscusions in one big topic cause they new a new topic
every day would annoy people .

So for example these "flash game!" or "funny shit" topics
could be a bit more compressed ?
i don't know.

I didn't see it, and didn't mean to cause offence - Only,
Promo commented on my last two tracks, and made the point
that I hadn't listened to his.. As I'm at my mum's with a
cable connexion, I got them all this afternoon, and
commented on them! So I wasn't needlessly bringing up old
topics! I'm off to work now, so my Promo listening is ended

i think either Marlowe has promised Promo he'd check out all

threads WITHOUT being off-topic (ie: commenting on tracks,
which probably is good for Promo, though...)

i'm in fact totally against pointless threads. don't confuse
this with non-music threads, which are OK as long as they
make sense. but the music vs non-music ratio has to be set
to a decent level.

i do not agree that less non-music threads would attract
less visitors - but it would attract different people....
there are many hardcore electronic music lovers out there
who are scared off by the current amount of non-music
threads, i know that for a fact and it's a shame.

in opposite of other forums we do not have clearly written
rules here... we believe in human sense and it's not bad to
have had this mb running for several years now with
thousands of messages per day w/o any major troubles. but if
we would allow all kind of behaviour it would flip out
rather quickly - believe me.

well.. we are all reasonable people... the threads that
survive should be considered more interesting to the
community, and threads that die.. well, they're not a
problem anymore, are they?! now, depending on the people who
are logged on at the time, different types of threads will
take priority, while others will fall out. It's the
flexibility and the general good sense excersised by the
mods (you ARE doing a good job, guys!) that makes this MB so
great!

it would save a very little amount of space of course.
I don't think the cost of space is the issue here, if
anything, it's the cost of the bandwith...
It's not a necissity to log everything but I think it is
nice. I mean the entire XLT history is preserved, well most
of it (very few topics are deleted, from what I know).
I mean not all of the history is interesting, but quite a
lot is.

But I do think the search-function could be improved...
But there are other more important things to be done I
guess.
