Sounds kinda a bit like V Snares drums. Can't really say anything else because without out notes or other stuff its just drums. Sounds ok at the mo. Its a bit dry. Just have to see how it develops.

They aren't drums. The are fuck up bleep samples, time stretched and stuff and then sequenced. The only drum sample I have in there is a messed about kick drum. Plus there is other stuff mixed in to the percussion...either way it's not going to have seperate melodic content...I want to keep it as it is...I like percussive tracks with incidental sounds.

well, sir. i enjoyed it, actually, and i don't much care for stuff like this. however, i kindof agree with mr. promo. it needs at least SOME kind of melodic something or other. it's like with gantz graf where for the first 200 times i listened to it i only heard noise. and then one day i heard that cute little pingy melody-thinger-ding in the background and now i love it. do something like that. or something.

hmm, it all sounds kinda plain, not clinical or anything, just kinda plain. The sounds are great, but the effects dont do it any justice.
You really need to grunge up some of the sounds or it will all just sound too samey.
try and make it so it sounds like it hasnt all been done on a computer.
perhaps re-record some of it from your speakers thru a mic, or use an outboard multi effect unit, or mix in small amounts of clipped white noise with some parts to juice it up a bit.
try taking it, and amplify the bass track until it clips, then reduce it down again, so the level is the same, but you have introduced some roughness by clipping it.
then master it through a valve stage or reel to reel. (to add 3rd and 2nd harmonics respectivly, which do wondors to anything!
goodluck

Actually there is a little melody in the background, quite hidden. It's in the middle register making it quite hard to hear.
It's a decent sample, but I find it impossible to gauge since it really really feels like it should go somewhere, and if it doesn't the track sucks... but other than my cynical foreboding, I think I can say it's decent once again. =P

sneakattack I'm glad someone picked up on the little melody thing. I think maybe I need to go back to the drawing board a little with this one though.

Yep but I thought you meant melody as in a clearly defined synth line etc...that's what I meant by seperate. The current melody is sort of an integral part of the percussion and not really distinct. If ambsace listens another 199 times he will understand what I mean :D

Hi, of course I heard it.. I think pen expers made everyone a big fan of that kind of thing =). Well that was a stupid comment since this is completely different--I like how it is in a low register hence blends with the other sounds.. the devil really _is_ in these details. By the way I enjoyed the track you posted a while back when said you were in a terrible mood.. keep up the good work

I don't have access to any of that stuff other than a crappy mic so I tried beat boxing it in and it didn't really work too well.
In case you can't tell this is a bump.

That was really good braindance, look forward to hearing the Ep. Nice use of the bleeps for drums. Very impressive

Even with a mic, you can do some pretty neat stuff!
**You can mic your speakers, and mix that in to the source sound to introduce some realism, by using your room dynamics.
**You can beat box over it and cut up the beatbox samples and use them as drums, or just nick some rahzel or something and use some electronic drum sounds, some sampled drum sounds and some beat box sounds to make interesting kits.
**You can just sing/whistle/make noise along to it. Listen to the team doyobi remixes; the MADE remix is like this and its fabulous!
**Put the mic next to the radio (preferbly one with a tuning knob or dial) and adjust the tuning in time with the song and mix this in, for a cool effect. (John Cage did a whole song like this)
**Put the mic in strange cavities and record the sound from the speakers via the cavity, e.g. at the end of a long tube, a rolled up newspaper, a broken wine bottle, a cushion cover, a mug, etc.
What software do you use? Surely you must be able to clip sounds by over amplifying them, then reduce them to their original level. This way they won't be any louder bit will still have distortion. (Its the method most electronics circuits use)

I'll just some microphone fuckery a chance one of these days.
I'm still very much learning. Still experimenting. Up to this point everything I have done has been done using software with no external samples other than ones from CD etc. I am going to start introducing real world elements as I go along.
Thanks for the advice :D
