don't fool with nitric acid.
ebay is right.
mind you, i've never done it habitually, just a few experimental whip-its.

yeah... most headshops will sell little n2o canisters (used in resturants to pressurize various things). you'll also need a big balloon and a cracker (a tool to open the canister, usually made of aluminum).
whip-its are kinda fun.
you'll try it once, then tell people that they are kinda fun.

i don't think there's an easy, effective way for an individual to economically produce nitrous oxide.
buy food grade nitrous oxide that's intended for use making whipped cream. as was noted, you'll need a cracker and a sturdy balloon.
nitrous oxide displaces oxygen in your system, and can suffocate you in large quantities (should you be lucky enough to have access to a larger cylinder, as in a dentist's office).

Yeah, you can get a kinda "fuzzy head" thing for awhile afterwards. Also, if you're tripping on anything they'll send you completely skyward for 1-2minutes.

how exactly does it "get you high" is it just cutting off your supply of oxygen?

doing while high on other drugs is the best high.. like when high off ecstacy .. especially. you know.. if you're into that sorta thing.
but yea.. watch out.. the come down is harsh .. cause it's really intense for a minute or so..

i've never tried, but.... doesn't doing it make your voice all fucked-up and low pitched right afterwards? ..sorta like the reverse of the effect helium has on the vocal chords..?

it doesn't just cut off your oxygen supply, i'm not sure the mechanism of activity is entirely understood.
i don't think it has any effects on the pitch of your voice like helium.

Nitrous oxide seems to exert its effect in the brain via release of endorphin. In my experience, if the patient is taking opiates, that the concentration of nitrous oxide I use (50 volume %) generally produces no apparent sedation and analgesia. - Dr. Plaidzebra

well, i've heard there's a certain type of gas that makes your voice sound lower because it's heavier than oxygen.. so the vocal chords vibrate at a slower rate.. i'm not sure of the name of the gas.. but whatever it is, i think it is also inhaled for "recreational" purposes..

it can also make you hilucinate visually, in addition to things being funny, and some euphoria too in my experience
apparently you laugh because your facial muscles are relaxing..

to clarify, helium and xenon will change the pitch of your voice, but are otherwise non-reactive and have no recreational effects, despite the appearance of xenon in the erowid archives of drug experience reports...
gases that are reactive are not likely to change the pitch of your voice in this way.

not sure what gas.. actually now i remember where i saw/heard this.. it was from a tape of this kid i know and his friends inhaling some gas from a special dispenser thing he constructed..
after each inhalation the inhaler-person sounded like they had the voice of something along the lines of a demon.

yer average kid won't have access to xenon...

This is probably the only drug I've tried, since I went to the dentist... or orthodontist or whatever the hell it was. It was great, I might investigate buying some on ebay someday. When I had it, I tried to fight it and not laugh or smile to see what would happen. So I was serious for like a minute, then suddenly couldn't help exploding into a smile (then passed out because of some other thing they gave me to make me unconscious)

i knew a guy at uni who spent a lot of time experimenting to come up with the perfect device for inhaling n20 in the most efficient way.
he ended up crafting some kind of crazy mask-contraption from all sorts of household items.
he set up a false account as a restaurant + used to get the canisters delivered to his address. he also bought a dry ice machine + a strobe light.
he'd have these parties where he + his mates took a lot of mushrooms, set the smoke machine running so they could barely see anyone/thing - switch on the strobe light + take blasts on the n20 dispenser.
he was a real narcotics fiend come to think of it..

I've seen someone use a gas like that too.
only thing is, it is heavier than oxygen. which meant this person, after demonstrating, had to hang himself upside down from some construction, just to get the excess gas out.
can't remember what it's called either.

Depending on where you live you can buy it at supermarket (bulbs sold for whipping cream or old fashion soda bottles). It's best to do it around other mates to prevent injury from laughing fit!!
