REAL RULES

As with any community, there are rules which ensure that
everything runs as smoothly as possible, and that everyone
gets along peacefully. These forums are no different. We
recognise that not everyone gets along, but we also know
that this doesn't mean that the world should stop turning.
This page of rules gives you the boundaries to work within.
These aren't the default rules that come with the boards
software, these are written by the administrators and
moderators who deal with people on a daily basis. We would
appreciate it if you could read through this page and absorb
as much as humanly possible before posting. These rules are
also in a constant state of flux. Stay tuned for further
episodes.

Word.

Bangkok, Karachi
Sunday 15th August: Sydney

The night before departure, I looked up some temperatures on
the Net. Peshawar, Chitral, Islamabad - all in the high
thirties or even forties. And then Kashgar, in China -
eleven degrees and minus six overnight! Vera and PeterK
threw in some extra thermal underwear, and I grabbed an
extra light jumper (one with holes that I wouldn't mind
leaving behind).

Monday 16th August and Tuesday 17th August: Bangkok,
Karachi, Peshawar

We were delayed nine hours in Bangkok airport as a result of
a late Pakistan International flight. This was actually
really convenient - instead of spending eleven hours in
transit in Karachi airport, we spent it in Bangkok in an
air-conditioned hotel room courtesy of the airline!

On the flight to Karachi I finished my second trashy novel.
We talked to a couple with children, Christian missionaries
returning to their work with "tribals" somwhere in the Rann
of Kutch, near the Indian border. They had been working
there twelve years... In Karachi airport we changed money
and had our first tea.

On the flight to Peshawar I had a window seat (over the
wing) and could see glimpses of the Indus and its barrages,
the desert, and then the mountains. We arrived at 6pm (when
it was still very hot) and were met by Kari Sufyam, a
postgrad detailed to look after us, and driven to University
guesthouse. We met Riaz, one of the organisers, and were fed
a simple but huge dinner - rice, bread, dahl, etc. We had
arrived a day before most people as a result of a confusion
about dates.

The forums are here for anyone to post on. This is a website
dedicated to the wizard class of Everquest but we do get
visitors from other classes as well. There is no reason
other classes cannot come to these forums and join in with
the conversations.

General rules:

Avoid personal attacks. If you don't agree with what someone
posted, debate their post... not the person that posted it.

Keep the profanity to a minimum. Keep in mind that this
website and it's forums are visited by people of all ages
and ethnic backgrounds. Many of which do not appreciate
vulgar language. So, the less there is, the better the
forums are for everyone. Besides.. a foul mouth doesn't make
you look very impressive.
Try your hardest to post in the appropriate forum. Don't be
upset if we move your post to a more approriate forum. If we
happen to move a post, don't publically throw a tantrum
concerning it.
Pornography will not be allowed in any way, shape, or form.

No advertisements.

Signature rules:

I'll be the first to admit that I love the imagination and
creativity put behind some of the signatures at the bottom
of some of the posts. However, some people don't realize
that there are still some people out there on dialup modems.
Huge signatures can dramatically increase the time it takes
for some to load the pages:

Your complete signature file should not exceed 30kb in size.

Keep the physical size of your signature to a decent size.
Common banner-ad sizing (468x60 pixels) is a good example of
an appropriate physical size.
Only post your custom signature once per thread. If you are
posting a second time in a thread, uncheck the "Include
custom signature" box before clicking on the 'Post' button.

Half a dozen of us were just setting off for a walk when
Hawas offered an alternative - watching a polo game. PeterC,
PeterK, Tom, Ruth, Hawas, and I packed into a jeep and went
to the polo field. It was five a side, with no fouls and no
referee, and accompanied by drum and flute music. The
backdrop was just amazing (photo). Afterwards we took a
quick look at the mosque and fort (photo), the location of a
famous siege in 1895.

Custard was served for dessert, to great applause (someone
had been wishing for it). After dinner Ruth and Hawas and I
sat up and talked till late (this became a regular custom).
All told, it was a really good day - it was wonderful to
have half a day to explore, rather than spending all the
daylight hours travelling.

Posters must be 18 years of (mental) age. Or mature enough
to leave mature messages.

Be respectful of other people when posting on the message
board.

Do not impersonate another member of the message board.

Thousands of viewers read the message board on a daily
basis. Please have something to say. A message such as,
"anyone in here?" takes up countless minutes when the number
of viewers who read the post is taken into consideration.
Please make intelligent posts which have a purpose.

Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Number of posts. There is no official number of posts that a
person can leave in a day. However five is roughly the
appropriate number. If a poster leaves numerous posts too
often he/she will be warned, then if it continues to be a
problem they will be banned.

Individuals who violate these rules will be banned from the
forum.

This forum is rated DT!-PG. DT!-PG means no drug
discussions. DT!-PG means no sexually explicit
conversations. It also means no threats of violence, real or
implied. “I am going to kill my English teacher” is not
proper for these forums.
Update: The same goes for all conversations advocating the
death penalty, war, and any other act that involves the loss
of life. Regardless of the admins’ / moderators’
opinions on any of these things, we don’t want to see them
here.

Fuck the rules.

Right after I finish fist fucking your mother I am going to
hunt you down and rip your eyeballs out of their sockets and
eat them allowing you to listen to the satisfying sound of
eye squish.

Then I will expect to be hanged for my crimes which is only
proper, which in turn will lead to a war being fought over
the right to kill me resulting in the death of the
population of Wales after the Americans nuke it because they
saw a man with a white beard on a hill.

This man turned out to be Father Christmas and Christmas was
no more all because you posted that message.

No cursing or profanity.

All but the lightest cursing will be hammered, and 'light
curse words' are only allowed when used 'properly'.
Certain words may not be offensive to you, but lots of kids
frequent this board, and they aren't going to hear it from
here. 'Cursing' is defined as a curse word not used in its
original meaning. (For example: if some angel in an anime
damns some guy to hell with their Magic Monkey Gun, you can
say that. However, you can't use those words as expletives,
or unnecessary adjectives.) It isn’t hard to say “I
don’t give a darn” or “What the heck” instead of the
alternatives.
Generally, stay away from R-rated words (which are generally
perverse terms for body parts and sexual acts), and watch
out for the rest.
This is another one of those rules that people always try to
wiggle around – don’t be those people.
Remember - getting a borderline-curse word hammered doesn't
mean you'll be banned, by any stretch of the imagination -
getting it hammered and insisting on using it again and
again, however, might.

Bright sunshine and blue skies this morning. So most
important thing first, roof down and a blast through the
Oxfordshire countryside. My first trip is along the B4027
which runs from the top of Oxford (Glympton north of
Woodstock) right round the east side of Oxford to join the
A40 at Forest Hill (and just before the M40). Fantastic
road, not too small, not too straight, fantastic scenery and
some amazing small villages on the way.

This place has been invisible since sometime Friday night.
It was still running, but an admin error with a firewall
meant visitors weren’t allowed in. There’s no point me
getting annoyed, after all, I pay very little for the
hosting service (£10/year), and get plenty of services that
would cost ten times that each month.

Anyway, it’s back and running now, and when I get chance
I’ll go back and backfill the weekend.

Manic at work today, so much to do, and all very urgent
stuff. Still got through it without too many problems. We
also finally got some aircon fitted upstairs (where us IT
bods work) today, which literally is “cool”.

Back home and I spend a while trying to get Spam Assassin to
work (too many s’s), but don’t quite manage it. SA is
installed ok, but the combination of it and procmail seem to
lose my mail quite nicely. And if you thought Linux was a
bit like hieroglyphics, you ain’t seen nothing until you
start playing with procmail, some examples from trying to
get SA to work:

“|IFS=’ ’ && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75
#user”
:0fw: spamassassin.lock
:0:
* ^X-Spam-Status: Yes

Does it look like someone has just sprinkled random
characters around in that or what? I reckon they should win
a medal for obfuscation, ‘cause if the above is anything
to go by, they’re damn good at it.

Put at least a little effort into grammar and
spelling.

Regarding grammar and spelling: put some effort into it.
Don't post a dozen '!!!?1!!?!?' together, don't use huge all
caps text, don't go 'u r teh b1ZEsT' when you can type 'you
are the best', and make some sort of effort to spell things
at least semi-correctly. Use the spell check if you need to.

In our carriage we bumped into an American family - Eric and
Elizabeth, brother and sister - they were on their way to
Beijing.

"There's a lot of excitement when the train makes a stop,"
Elizabeth told me. "We get off and see what kinds of food
you can get - what the babushkas are selling. It's a great
way to amuse yourself."

Kostya believes Russia will be great again
Further down the train we found a group of Russian
conscripts on their way to a military base.

One soldier, called Kostya, told me that every time he
looked out of the window (in the daytime) at the forests and
the snow, he felt enormous pride. He was sure, he said, that
Russia would once again become a great country.

I also came up with a new invention that i called the heated
balloon machine.

Basically, the heated balloon machine consists of three
parts: envelope, basket, and burner system. It's a fairly
simple piece of equipment, and for what it delivers, it is
something of a bargain.

If you look at what is available in flying machines, for
instance, you may be surprised to find that using the heated
balloon machine is less than half as expensive as the next
class of aircraft, the sailplane.

The Envelope
The part of the balloon that looks like a balloon is
actually called an envelope. Some pilots also affectionately
refer to it as "the bag." It is connected to the gondola, or
basket, in which pilot and passengers ride, by means of
stainless steel suspension cables.

The fabric in the envelope is rip stop, fire-resistant
nylon, similar to material used in the backpacks or
lightweight tents carried by hikers and mountaineers.

It is woven in panels, two panels making up what is a gore.
There are 24 of these gores, or large vertical sections, in
the entire S-55A envelope. The gores are held together by
stitching and by heavy duty load tapes, webbing similar to
the material used in seat belts in automobiles, which help
support the weight of the balloon and minimize strain on the
fabric, thus prolonging the useful life of the vessel.

The envelope is usually treated with a polyurethane coating
to reduce porosity, and in the coating is an ultraviolet
inhibitor to help the fabric withstand the rays of the sun.

The top cap or crown of the balloon may be designed in one
of two ways. The standard top features a circular deflation
port that is closed off by a circular panel, which is held
sealed during flight by a flexible hook and-loop closure.
A deflation port line, usually called the rip line and
colored red, extends from the top to the basket and is
pulled by the pilot upon landing to effect an instantaneous
deflation of the envelope. Pull on the line, and the
hook-and-loop closure comes open, and the hot air rushes
out.

The parachute top also features an opening in the crown,
along with a similar circular panel to fill the opening. In
this case, the panel is rigged up with lines, as the name
suggests, exactly like a parachute. It is used both for
effecting a complete deflation of the envelope afterlanding,
and also during flight to vent a limited amount of hot air
as a means for controlling vertical ascent or descent.

After landing in the parachute top balloon, the pilot pulls
on the top line and holds it open for as long as he can
until the envelope has been deflated.

Balloons built with the standard deflation port also feature
an opening in the side known as the maneuvering vent, also
initially sealed, like the deflation port by hook-and-loop
closure. This vent is operated by a rope called the
maneuvering vent line, which extends from the vent to the
basket. The pilot pulls the line, causing the side vent to
open and allowing the hot air to escape to stop a rate of
ascent or initiate a rate of descent. Once the line is
released, the vent automatically recloses.

A skirt is connected to the bottom section of the envelope
with peelable

More than 16 million adults in the United States have
anxiety disorders. The hallmark of this group of conditions
is extreme anxiety (defined as the pathological counterpart
of normal fear). Among those affected, anxiety is manifested
as disturbances of mood, as well as of thinking, behavior,
and physiological activity. Anxiety disorders are not only
common in the United States, they are ubiquitous across
human cultures.

Conference Site
Prague is one of the oldest cities in Central Europe. It has
a rich history, unique architecture, and pleasant
atmosphere. A typical weather at the end of June is warm,
with afternoon temperatures about 27 degrees and occasional
rains. The conference will be held at Faculty of Nuclear
Science of the Czech Technical University, the second oldest
university in Prague, founded at 1707. The building is
situated at the bank of Vltava river in the Jewish quarter
of the Old Town.

Program
The registration will open on Sunday, June 21. The program
will consist of main one-hour lectures and original
contributions presented either as shorter talks or in a
poster form. The decision about the presentation will be
made by May 15. The deadline for abstracts was March 31,
1998. The conference proceedings will be published by
Birkhauser in the series "Operator Theory: Advances and
Applications." The volume will contain plenary talks
together with a part of the other contributions; the
selection will be made by the committee at the end of the
conference.

Electronic access
The e-mail address of the organizing commitee is
qmath7@ujf.cas.cz. The participants are encouraged to supply
their electronic coordinates, since the information will be
disseminated preferably in this way. To download the
application form, click here.

Registration
The registration fee is USD 180 (USD 220 after March 31).
This includes costs of the auditories, stationery, a copy of
conference proceedings, and social events. The latter also
concerns accompanying persons who are supposed to pay USD
30. For more information about these matters click here.

An age and/or geography determined support
The organizers offered support ranging from a fee reduction
to the board and lodging (no travel expenses) to two
categories of participants:

young colleagues who demonstrated already research abilities
but faced difficulties in getting a support from their
institutes, and
participants from the former East-block countries, taking
into account the present state of a particular place.
With the help of our sponsors which we deeply appreciate we
have been able to assist in this way about fifty colleagues.
The decision was communicated to them on April 8.

Travel
Prague has a good connection with most of major world
airports. Within Europe, there are convenient ways how to
reach the place by train or car. No visa are needed for
participants from almost all European countries, U.S.A. and
Canada. Applicants from other parts of the world should
consult the nearest embassy of the Czech Republic; a letter
of invitation will be provided at request. The public
transport in the city is reasonably functioning; a week
ticket is available at present for CZK 250 (about USD 8). A
car rental can be arranged for a tourism before and after;
during the conference it would not help much because the
parking fees around the conference site range within USD
0.50-1.50 per hour.

Related events
A workshop on Schroedinger operators with magnetic fields in
the Erwin Schroedinger Institute in Vienna is organized by
I. Herbst, T. Hoffmann-Ostenhoff, and J. Yngvason in May and
the first half of June. On June 18-20, the colloquium
"Quantum Groups" will be held in the Doppler Institute -
contact C. Burdik.
