Kids, if you want some fun Mr. La Page is your man He's always laughing, having fun, showing his films in the den
Soon you will be eighteen, I think you know what I mean Don't tell your mama, your daddy or mama They'll never know where you've been Everyone's gone to the movies, now we're alone at last
Listen to what I say, he wants to show you the way Right down the hallway with open arms, to teach you a new game to play
Soon it will be too late, bobbing for apples can wait I know you're used to 16 or more, sorry we only have 8 Everyone's gone to the movies, now we're alone at last
Kids, if you want some fun, see what you never have seen Take off your cheetahs sit right down, start the projection machine
Everyone's gone to the movies, now we're alone at last

Yeah, Steely Dan wrote some of the best songs of the 70s if you ask me - even if they get a little too polished towards the end of their run. Pretzel Logic, Countdown to Ecstasy and Katy Lied are their best albums I think.

they have some class stuff. donald fagan's vocal style is a bit dodgy, not stuff you'd be showing off to your friends i don't think, but the music is enjoyable in the confines of your own home ;)
class guitarring.
What album is "everybody's gone to the movies" on?

It's on Katy Lied - yeah great guitar, love the first few albums with Denny Dias and Skunk Baxter.
About the vocals - you see, Donald Fagen invented indie whining before indie even existed.

nah man, there ain't nothing to be embarressed about with Steely Dan... it's some pretty sophisticated pop music imo... my favorite albums are Katy Lied, Aja (simply a masterpiece) and Gaucho... even though Gaucho is probably considered their worst, I love it...
I haven't heard anything before KAty Lied though... I was totally into Steely Dan a few years back and bought a bunch of their albums, and didn't get earlier then Katy Lied for some reason...

I actually think Donald Fagan's voice is cool... always seemed to fit the music perfectly to me... of course it's not the best, but it's far from bad imo...
and, just a little tidbit for you... the drummer for the 80's band Toto used to be in the permanent Steely Dan band for a while before they moved totally to using session players... Jeff Porcaro was his name I believe...
